It’s Friday? Has this week seemed like the longest week ever? I am glad it’s over. Too bad our principal is making us work tomorrow. Yeah, we have to work a full day tomorrow to unpack standards. Not like the Kindergarten team hasn’t done that for the past two summers. So sure we will come on a Saturday. Not like I have any other stuff going on. It’s not like I have a wedding in 23 days…or a Madonna concert on Wednesday…or lesson plans to write, products to create, assessments to create and more assessments to score and write up a report for you the principal. Anyways…yay for Saturday work days….right!?
This week has been an interesting week at my school. Our principal has sadly created a very depressing and deflating work environment. I might even recall the word “disappointed” being used to speak of teachers. But, I have decided that I won’t be affected by that. I got this great card for my wedding shower yesterday and it was totally appropriate. I refuse to let others influence how I teach and what I do for my students. My students and their needs influence me.
With that said, we did some math assessments today and my kids did well. I have 14 out of 16 who have mastered the one to one concept to 5. WOO HOO! Those two are really struggling. I have on friend who thinks that if others are finished, she should be too. So we’re counting and this is what she does: “1, 2, 5.” She skips to 5 because someone else is already done. It’s crazy. She does it with her name, picture sorts, coloring. As soon as 1 person finishes, she really thinks she should be finished. We’re working on it.
And our data looks AWESOME! So the word disappointed doesn’t apply. Thanks.
Since we’re doing some standard unpacking tomorrow, I wanted to share this resource. I’m sure you’ve seen it on the blogosphere. I checked it out and was impressed. Now, let me say, I am not usually one to be impressed with a lot of professional books. I just always think, yeah, I know this already. But this book is different. It actually has practical and ready to use resources and ideas. And it does have a lot of cute graphics which is always a plus! This Kindergarten Common Core.will be a great resource for kindergarten teachers!
And now for your freebie! We did the letter P this week so I created this P for Pig picture sort! I hope you enjoy it!
Check back tomorrow for The Saturday Kindergarten Post for an exciting rundown of our week.
