AAAARGH You a pirate?! Well, according to Dave Burgess’ book, we should all be pirates! I am very excited about this summer book study! If you don’t have this book yet, click on the picture to get it from Amazon. I’ve read about a third of the book and I already feel like a better teacher. Seriously, when I read at night I get so inspired/excited/motivated that I want to scream…but I don’t because I doubt the Mister would like that at midnight while he sleeps…

I just got the book and am on the second chapter. Love it!
I want to thank the author for letting us as teachers off the hook to be passionate about EVERYTHING we teach.
Content Passion: definitely books and reading. I hoard childrens books and have at least one for every topic I teach and more for silly days.
Professional Passion: I think I'd have to say I'm passionate about continuing education. I'm taking online courses and keeping up with early childhood trends.
Personal Passion: I'm a crafter. My newest passion is handmade soaps and all natural remedies. You'll often find me in the park or a neighbor's yard sniffing unknown “weeds”, learning about all things herbal!
Hi Greg,
That book sounds amazing! I just may have to grab it and read it this summer. Thanks for sharing. And…I promise I will post about those READ letters you like before Friday.

Traditions, Laughter and Happily Ever After
I have the same major areas of passion for content – reading and science. I struggle with social studies. I love that he talks about how you can add passion from other areas into those content area lessons to make them exciting!
Loving this book!

It's so funny how we all are posting that same quote… it is so hard to feel ok with NOT being passionate about everything we teach these days!! Thanks for joining in!!

Third Grade Tidbits
I was so relieved when I saw that quote in the book because I really cannot stand our science curriculum. I put on my game face, but ugh, when rocks and soil come up it's pretty tough. Reading is my professional passion as well. I absolutely cannot go into a B&N without spending $.
Rowdy in First Grade
Math is not my passion….however that makes me try harder to build LCL moments in math. I keep thinking if don't like it, then my students won't learn what they need to learn to be successful and build upon the skill. I will be a failure!
Ahh, yes!! That deep dark secret that burdens our souls and weighs on our shoulders! Be free! We do not always have to be passionate about the content in order to always be passionate in our work. There's enough ammunition in our professional passions to start a blazing inferno and sustain it for a whole career! I loved reading your post…thank you so much for blogging about #tlap
Love that you're trying to add LCL's in math…we need them in all subjects. You can't possibly be a failure when you're class is filled with LCL's!!
Ha! That's how I feel about going to Amazon…I'm not getting off the page w/o buying something.
You're welcome!! I love your professional passion…hard to find something that correlates more with being a great teacher than being a life-long learner!!
