Hello cold and snow day!! BRRR! I ventured out to do errands today and it was brutal. I’m thankful for the day off and a warm house! Guess who will be sitting by the fire with homemade chili tonight? ME!
Today I want to share something that I stumbled across while playing on Pinterest way too late at night! You know…Pinterest when you should be asleep at 1 a.m.!
You can click the picture to see the original post…which just happens to be an Indiana University website. You know it’s good when this Hoosier alum finds it on the IU page! GO HOOSIERS!
This activity had a limited number of letters and included words with the picture. I liked the idea and decided to modify it for beginning sounds.
This is a quick and cheap activity to set up. All you need is an index card file box, file dividers and beginning sound pictures. Guess what?! I made some cards for you so you can just download them for FREE! My materials cost me less than $5 at Wal-Mart!
Students choose a card, identify the beginning sound and file the picture behind the letter that makes the sound!
Not only are they working on sounds but a little fine motor practice is involved too!
I have two students who need lots of practice with beginning sounds so this will be introduced to them during small groups and then placed in their centers!
Click on the picture to download your free beginning sound cards!
I want to say a HUGE and heartfelt thank you to each of you for reading my blog, commenting, following me on social media and most importantly, being my friend! You make me want to be a better teacher every day!!! In fact, you have made me a much better teacher!
Today my friend told me that I had made the top 100 PreK-2 sellers on Teachers Pay Teachers and I was in shock. I still am in shock. It’s crazy. It is an amazing feeling knowing that my creations are good enough to be used in classrooms all over the country. The mister put it in the best perspective when he said that every time a common core creation is bought, a child learns. And that is what this journey is all about friends! Friendship. Learning. Teaching. And providing the best possible education for our students! Thank you for everything! How about a Kindergarten Smorgasboard party at my house this summer?! You’re all invited!
I am so blessed and lucky!!! THANK YOU!

Count me in for the summer party!! Can we go to Monell's for breakfast??? By then we will be fit and trim… and can have a “cheat” day! (Note to self: Remember the stretch pants this time!) LOL! Congrats on making the top “100”… however, some of us already knew you were #1!
Oops! I misspelled a word in my first post… and it bothered the “teacher” in me… so I deleted it. Didn't realize it would keep the post “mark” there!? I think my brain is beginning to freeze up here! #snowpocalypse2014
Thank you so much for sharing. This a great activity.
Thanks for sharing this neat activity. I have similar card that I have filed like this and I just pull them out when using in my small groups but I never thought of having the kids sort them into a file box! Awesome idea!
Congratulations on reaching the top 100! I'm not surprised a bit! You are very deserving! :o)
Congratulations on making the top 100! I know exactly what you mean about pinning when you should be sleeping; I do it all the time! A lot of what I read is your blog and your great ideas!

You are amazing!!! Thank you so much for all of your creations! You have helped me and my team this year so much! We have a new “framework” that we are using and it is horrible, but thanks to you and your creations our students are still able to get super engaging, quality centers and practice! Thank you so so so so so much!
Thank you for sharing! What a fun idea. I have two who could really use the practice, but I know some others who will want to do this, too. Hope you had a great first day back in the freezing cold. Congratulations!!
