Double Double Addition Game!

Happy Thursday.  1 more day before the weekend!  WE CAN DO IT!!!
Today I want to share a super fun game we played today to help us with our addition fluency.   A HUGE shoutout to one of my Teacher BFFs (TBFF) and amazing teammate, Mrs. P for sharing this game with me.  My ‘staches LOVED it!  You can even hear their excitement during the video!   (Oh yeah…video…you asked for the videos and now we’re slightly addicted to making them.)  Anytime they say the love a game or activity, you know it’s a keeper!
To play you need some students and some large dice.  We got our large dice from the Dollar Tree.  You also need to teach your students the saying:   “Double Double Bump Bump.  Double Double Pump Pump.  Double Double Jump Jump.  Double Double Rump Rump.”
Bump Bump-bump hips.
Pump Pump-fist bumps
Jump Jump-Jump
Rump Rump-shake your backside
To play, a student rolls the two dice.  If you roll doubles (2 of the same number) everyone stands up and does the double double chant.  Then you sit down.   If it’s not a double, the class solves the equation and someone else rolls the dice.
Seriously, we had a blast playing this game.  We built our addition fluency….we got to move and laugh…we learned!  That, my peeps, is a successful lesson!
Last weekend, I was asked by my friend at SheSparkle TV to be interviewed for her new YouTube series about teachers.  I had a blast chatting over Google Hangout! (I LOVE Google Hangouts!  If you ever wanna do a Google Hangout, just holler!).  The interview has been posted on YouTube so I hope you’ll check it out!

I have had a lot of people ask about the blends chart that I use during my morning literacy routine!  Well, you’re in luck!  Here it is!  Just click the picture to download a copy!
