A Kindergarten Smorgasboard Schedulin Sunday!

Happy Sunday!  It’s time for another episode of everyone’s favorite game show:  what will Mr. Greg decide to attempt with his ‘staches this week?  And will glitter be involved?!    Well, let’s get right to it, shall we?!
This week is all about plants, how to writing, Peeps and addition!

As always you can download a copy of my lesson plans by clicking on the picture.  If you would like an editable version of the template, please visit A Teacher’s Plan to get a copy of the template, known as THE GREG!
Here are the books we will be reading this week to help us learn about plants:
I love starting off our plant unit with The Tiny Seed because Eric Carle is awesome and this book is such a great introduction to the life cycle of plants.  And Tops And Bottoms is just one of my favorites because I find it HILARIOUS!
As we read our books, we will be completing a KWL chart, a Can Have Are chart and our Plant Research Journal!  We will be working on blending and word building, sight words, sight words and writing!  We are on unit 3 of Writing Through The Year so we’re focused on how to writing!  I didn’t fully grasp how difficult how to writing is for five year olds.  But we’re working on it!
In math, we are focusing on addition and subtraction.  We are focused on building fluency and strengthening the understanding of the concepts.  This week will be small group work and center work for math!  Each day I will pull groups and do a different addition activity!  Guess what that means?!?!  FREEBIES!
One of our activities will involve using these adorable carrot, chick and bunny eggs I found at The Dollar Tree and Wal-Mart.  I am hoarding these.  Seriously, every time I’m in these stores I buy more.  My name is Greg and I have a problem (it’s not as bad as buying clip art at red lights….just saying…)
In each of the eggs, I put two dice.  They choose an egg, shake it, count it, write, and add!  They can record their answer on the recording sheet!

We will also be doing a dice addition activity.  We will roll two dice.  We will count the dots and draw them on our paper.  We will write the equation and the answer!

We will also be adding jelly beans!  I will have bags of jelly beans with 2 colors of beans.  Student will choose a bag,  sort by color, count, write and add!
Another challenging math activity we will be doing are addition circle maps!  True story.  Thinking Maps in math…
Students will work to figure out which equations go on which circle maps!
The circle maps are available in these Common Core creations:

We will also be doing daily timed fluency tests for addition!  We are going for 3 minutes and so far, we are knocking it out of the park on these tests!
We are learning all about plants so we will be doing some fun hands-on plant experiments and art!
Monday we will plant our bean seeds with a moist papertowl and bregin recording our observations in our seed journals.  Once the seed has sprouted, we will transplant it into dirt.
We will label plant parts and make a plant parts and needs poster!
We will sponge paint a flower!  I love this because it gets so messy!  You know the motto:  Messy=Success!

For science we will be making edible Peep play dough!  Someone shared this on Facebook and as soon as I saw it, I said we were doing this week.  The recipe calls for coconut oil and that poses allergy concerns, so we’re using canola oil!
This recipe came from the Kids Activities Blog!  Be sure to check them out!
You need 3 peeps per child, oil and 3 tablespoons of powdered sugar!
Put the peeps and oil in the microwave and zap them for about 10 seconds!  Add the powdered sugar as your mixing with your hands!
For Foodie Fun Friday we will be making a Tops And Bottoms salad!  I bought all of the foods in the book and we will wash, peel, and cut the ingredients and make a salad to enjoy!
And that my friends, is our week!
Here is my newest Common Core creation!  Finished at midnight last night!  Perfect for math centers and math tubs.  (PS  The freebie preview CRACKS ME UP! Just saying…)
Let’s give away a copy!  Leave a comment (with your email) and share a favorite spring/Easter activity!  I’ll choose a winner tomorrow!
