Science Friday: Soda Science

It’s Friday!!  That means it’s time for Mad Science Friday!   You see…every Friday in our class is Mad Science Friday.  I dress up as a mad scientist and we do a hands on science experiment!
One of my favorites is soda science!
You need:
Mentos
Different types of soda
A Mentos releaser or Geyeser Tube
TRUST ME!!  You want this.  I did this same experiment last year…huge mess with no tube.  This year…much better!
First, like all good scientists, we make predictions.  We guess what will happen when we add the Mentos to the sodas.
We get answers like:  make bubbles, explode, change colors, etc.

Next, we color our recording sheet to match the sodas.  This is BEFORE!

Then you conduct your experiment!   This is where it gets messy!

After the experiment we decide which soda was the biggest explosion based on how much liquid is left in the bottles.  Then we write our conclusions and color our recording sheet.  On the AFTER side, we color the bottle to show how much liquid is left!   (Sorry there aren’t pictures…end of the year crazies got the pictures….or Zombies…yeah…zombies!)

Want recording sheets to go with this experiment that include hypothesis, observation and more! You will also receive 14 other Mad Science experiments to do with your classroom. Click below:
