We love music in our classroom. In fact, we love it so much it plays almost all day long. In fact, we recently got new speakers and we’ve had some complaints about noise! From our energetic and loud morning arrival playlist, to our Rock A Bye Baby lullabies for writer’s workshop, to Katy Perry’s ROAR to end our day, music is a major part of our classroom. We even have a classroom theme song! Do you?
Why? Well first of all, music is fun. And it’s time we bring more fun back into our classrooms. Seriously ya’ll, we work our kids so hard so it’s time we start having more fun and music is an easy to have some fun.
But there are some other important reasons….
Music sets a positive mood in your classroom. My kids spend the morning eating, working and singing and dancing because we have our music playing. That sets the tone for the day. It says that we’re happy and excited to be at school! Happy and excited! That’s what I want my ‘staches to feel when they walk into our classroom every day!
Music helps improve focus and attention.
Music enhances student interactions.
And…having a class theme song helps develop a strong sense of community. And isn’t that the goal? For our students to bond and form a strong, happy, loving, caring family?
All of those benefits just from music!
Our theme song is Roar from Katy Perry. I chose this song because the world is going to hear my ‘staches ROAR every day. I want my kids to know that they have a voice, that they matter and sure, we might get knocked down, but we’ll get back up and keep on fighting! We end everyday with a dance party while jamming to ROAR! We turn it up loud and we sing and dance to celebrate our learning and accomplishments for the day!
So do you have a classroom theme song? What is it?
I recently asked this question on my Facebook page and got some great answers! I even added several new songs to our playlist. And I’m not ashamed to admit it but MMMBOP is one of those songs. No shame.
I compiled those songs into a list! Hopefully you’ll find a great theme song for your class or at least some new songs to add into your playlists!
Here are 45 ideas for class theme songs!
(Note: I have not listened to every word on every song! Just sayin….)

So cute! I am going to make a theme song for the house!
A couple years ago our class theme song was Will.I.am's What I Am. One of my neighbors has it as her theme song this year. I need to get back to doing this!
Can I say I got RIDICULOUSLY excited to see a One Direction song on here? #NoShame #ILoveBoybands
We start our day with “Good Morning” by Mandisa. It is super upbeat and we love to dance to it!
Three Little Birds is our song!
Ours is “Shining Star” by Earth Wind and Fire! It's fun to see my kittens movin' and groovin' in the morning! “You're a shining star, no matter who you are!”
Most of these would make a great Spotify playlist!
Dream On by Aerosmith
Justin Timberlake's “Can't Stop the Feeling” will keep everyone moving!
Lovely Day by Bill Withers was a class favorite.
Question! Do you choose your class theme song or do you let your staches choose it? Do you change it at all throughout the year?
I pick it and keep it the same throughout the year!
My room is always rockin. In the morning I started playing channel 300 on Sirius that features up tempo Disney tunes. Love it! As for themes I had Mandisa’s “Good Morning”. Another song called “You are full of wonder.” Then, my favorite “I’m not giving up. I’m not giving up given up no not me.” My children went on to sing this at the retirement reception for our superintendent. So proud of my munchkins!
If you get Sirius radio in your car, you can sign up online for free. I use the different calming channels for study or quiet time. I like to change it up to expose them to all kinds of music.
