Ya’ll know how much I love ABC BOOTCAMP in our class because it’s fun and it’s highly effective. That’s why we use the same model for numbers and counting with Number Bootcamp. TKS Bootcamp’s NUMBER BOOTCAMP! It’s very similar to ABC BOOTCAMP and uses circle charts to introduce numbers and counting.
I print and cut out all of the pieces that represent the numbers for the week. So last week we did 1-5.
Then I place the pieces for 3 numbers in our pocket chart. So I would have pieces for numbers 1, 2 and 3. I add pieces after each day to keep pieces for 3 numbers in the chart. I’ve found that this is a good amount of pieces and not too overwhelming for the kids.
We identify the number, the kids show me that number using their fingers. And then we take turns finding the different representations of the number.
After we make the circle charts, we go back and count and identify each piece. For the ordinal number we identify the friend who is in that position in line. This makes a great real world, concrete connection for them!
Number Writing
Then we do number writing. I explicitly model how to write the numbers using our document camera. And we practice air writing our numbers with our fingers.
And then students practice writing the numbers.

Small Group Math: Number Bootcamp
To differentiate this numbers and counting resource, we use the student books in small groups. These books are perfect for working on one to one correspondence, number recognition and counting! For our books, we use stickers! But you can have students draw pictures or use stamp pads and fingerprints!

I'm so glad you made a post about Number Bootcamp! We are working on Number Bootcamp Monsters in our class. So far, we've done the number one. My kids LOVE it! I am glad you posted details placing all the pieces in the pocket chart. I didn't do that. I merely used the pieces for number 1. We talked about each piece, and I allowed them to place them on the circle map. Today, when we reviewed the circle map for 1, they were telling me the different ways we can show one EASILY! I couldn't believe it! They truly enjoyed it! Tomorrow, we will be working on number 2. I can't wait to see how many connections they will make! Thank you for creating such a wonderful product! We are also using ABC Bootcamp Monsters. They did an AWESOME job on the circle map for that too! I was in awe!
Can't wait to start ABC and Number Bootcamp on Monday!! When you put the pieces for the circle maps in the picket chart, how many numbers do out in there at one time? I was thinking 1 and 2 on Monday, then add 3 on Tuesday, and so on. Is that what you did?

When do you teach zero? Do you save it for the end? I’m starting next week with numbers and ABC boot camp teaching virtually. This is my first year in K but my 19th year teaching. Thanks in advance for helping know when to introduce zero.
I only teach it if needed and if so, I do it at the end of Number Bootcamp

Hi! I saw you present an idea at a K conference last spring where the kids practiced recognizing/writing numbers and practiced in a timed setting in order to set their personal best record. My notes must have gone the way of all things last spring during school closure and now that I want to implement it, I can’t find an example or info on it anywhere. Help!

Hello, Greg! I teach Pre-K in Chattanooga and LOVE your resources and ideas. I have a question about writing numbers. What “path of motion” rhymes/chants to you use when teaching how to write numbers? There are so many that I just don’t love. One that I like says “around the tree, around the tree, that’s the way you make a 3”. Did you create your own? Please share if you don’t mind. Thank you!!!!
For numbers, we used to use Dr. Jean’s number rhymes and like those a lot!
