Do you have a light box or light table in your classroom? This blog post shows you how to make CVC word activities for your lightbox. These activities are great word work activities that are aligned with the science of reading. These activities allow students to decode words, spell words, and write words.
CVC WORD MATCHING
To make this activity, you need plastic cups (we use shot glasses from Dollar Tree) and clear mailing labels.
Print the words and pictures on labels. Stick the labels on cups.
Students decode the word and match the word to the picture. Then they can write the word.

CVC WORD BUILDING
This activity uses clear labels and cups. In this activity students segment the sounds in words, spell the words and write the words.
CVC WORD BUILDING USING SOLO CUPS
This activity uses plastic solo cups. The solo cups were placed in the oven. They melt into flat discs. We printed the letters and pictures on the clear labels and stuck them on the discs. Set your oven to 375 and look for cups that have the number 6 or 7 on the bottom. The number is found in the recycling symbol. NOTE: all ovens are different and cups change so you might to experiment to find the cups and settings that work.
