Ya’ll know how much I love ABC BOOTCAMP in our class because it’s fun and it’s highly effective. So this year we are introducing TKS Bootcamp’s NUMBER BOOTCAMP! It’s very similar to ABC BOOTCAMP and uses the circle maps to introduce numbers and counting.
So here’s how I implement number bootcamp:
I print and cut out all of the pieces that represent the numbers for the week. So last week we did 1-5. So I printed all of the pieces for 1-5 and cut them out.
Then I place all of those pieces in our pocket chart.
We identify the number, the kids show me that number using their fingers. And then we take turns finding the different representations of the number.
After we make the circle maps, we go back and count and identify each piece. For the ordinal number we identify the friend who is in that position in line. This makes a great real world, concrete connection for them!
Then we do number writing. I model how to write the numbers using our Hue document camera.
Then we practice writing the numbers.
And that’s how we are implementing number bootcamp. After a week of number bootcamp I am already seeing a noticeable difference in their number recognition and counting!
During small groups we will be using the student books to reinforce and practice one to one counting.
Howdy, I am Mr. Greg. I have been teaching for 11 years. I spent a year teaching fifth grade, two years in second grade and am now in my 9th year in Kindergarten. Kindergarten is my passion and my calling but honestly, that wasn’t how it started. Read the whole story >
