Thanksgiving Research Project

This week we are starting our month long Thanksgiving Research Project.  During the month of November we learn about turkeys, we study needs and wants and being thankful.

We start our research project with a turkeys schema map!

As we learn about turkeys, we add our new learning to our schema map.

We do a tree chart for turkeys. Then the students use the graphic organizer to write about turkeys.

The students will also do a directed drawing of a turkey and make a fun neon turkey!

Word Families BOOTCAMP

This week we are continuing Word Family Bootcamp! After 26 days of ABC BOOTCAMP, we now use the sounds and letters we mastered and apply them to spelling, reading and writing CVC words! We use word families as a scaffold for reading CVC words because the rhyming helps support our students.

For word families using Word Family Bootcamp, we do a 2 day routine. Day 1 is a circle chart. Day 2 is word building, blending and writing.

To provide students extra support and practice, we use our differentiated word family, decodable readers. The readers are included in Word Family Bootcamp.

Read It UP! A Chair For My Mother

This week our Read It Up story is A Chair For My Mother. This is a great book for starting a discussion of needs and wants. We’re using this text to focus on problem/solution and then needs and wants. For problem and solution, we’re going to identify problems and solutions from the story and then we’re going to discuss and write about problems in our lives and how we can solve those problems!

Poem And Sight Word Reader: Leaves and Turkeys

Math: REVIEW

This week in math we have a review week built into our schedule. We are basing our lessons on our data. We are going to do a day of money review and the rest of the week working on numbers and counting.

For numbers and counting, we will play this fun racing game. On the cards will be dots. The papers on the floor will be numbers to 20. Students will have to count the dots and match them to the paper on the floor.

These are the creations we are using this week:
