It’s week 3 of kindergarten, and our weekly kindergarten lesson plans are ready for ABC BOOTCAMP, counting to 10, families and the five senses, and so much more! This week is all about procedures, routines, and relationships, so we will have lots of fun while learning!

Weekly Kindergarten Lesson Plans For ABC BOOTCAMP
This week we’re continuing ABC BOOTCAMP! The fun, the cutting skills, and the growth that we have with ABC BOOTCAMP are what make it a must-do! This week, we’re doing C G I N H. We’re once again following the order of our required district curriculum.
For each letter, we do a circle chart, which is explicit instruction in sounds and letters using a sounds-first approach. We do explicit handwriting instruction. We also make a hat to build phonemic awareness and vocabulary while practicing cutting skills.
For handwriting, I explicitly model how to form each letter, and students practice independently!
We also practice writing the letter during our morning message!
And, of course, we make our ABC BOOTCAMP hats! This week, we’re making a castle, hamburger, noodle, iguana and grapes hat!
Weekly Lesson Plans: Phonemic Awareness Bootcamp
This week we also continue Phonemic Awareness Bootcamp! Phonemic Awareness Bootcamp is all about hearing the sounds and the oral language. We start with sentences and work our day down to sounds in words, segmenting etc. This research-based resource is designed for each lesson to take about 10 minutes, and then we move to ABC BOOTCAMP, which has explicit phonics and combines sounds and letters. This week in Phonemic Awareness Bootcamp, we’re working on breaking sentences into words. We will be counting the words in sentences using our bodies and sticky notes.
Weekly Kindergarten Lesson Plans: Five Senses
This week we’re starting our Five Senses Research Project! This is part of our required district curriculum but we try to add our own spin to make it more fun and appropriate. We’re using our Five Senses Research project!
We start with a notice and wonder to get kids talking about their five senses! As they share out I record their thoughts on our notice and wonder chart. This is also our first lesson on asking questions.
We also create a chart of all things we use our five senses for. Sometime we break this lesson into two days if needed! Again this is a great turn and talk activity.
We also do our first sensory jar activity. I show pictures of different objects, and we decide if we can taste them. If we can taste it, it goes in the jar and we use describing words for the taste!
And of course, you can’t do five senses without Mr. Potato Head so we’re making our own potato heads!
Weekly Kindergarten Lesson Plans: Families
This week our social studies unit is all about families! We’re learning about different families and sharing all about our families!
This week we’re sharing who’s in our family, what families like to do together, and my personal favorite is how our family irritates me!
The class will use their families research journal to draw their family!
And we end the week making our self-portraits. For this project, I model a step and the kids do the step.
Weekly Kindergarten Lesson Plans: Counting To 10
This week we’re continuing Number Bootcamp with numbers 8-12.
We’re focusing on counting and writing numbers to 10 in accordance with our required curriculum and scope and sequence but we’re adding in our own fun ideas and our own fun approach to the lessons to make them more effective.
This week we’re counting gumballs and pizza slices! Each of these activities is made of poster board! Poster board is my new favorite tool. I love using it to create fun lessons! We will do each lesson for two days with day 1 being whole group and day 2 being individual practice.
Introducing Centers
This week we are also introducing centers! We start with our literacy tubs. To introduce the tubs we go over the rules and expectations and students choose a tub. When they choose a tub, they show me the tub, and I give them very quick instructions. “You’re going to match the letters so find the letters that are the same!” They go off to work and as soon as everyone has a tub I start moving around the room helping them and monitoring their work!
Weekly Kindergarten Lesson Plans: Foodie Fun Friday
This week we will be making rainbow parfait!
Foodie Fun Friday is a classroom tradition where we make a snack each Friday.
The recipe is included in our Foodie Fun Friday resource!
Weekly Kindergarten Lesson Plans: Morning Meeting
This week our greeting will be a picture card greeting. Students will choose a card and find a friend to greet.
