Happy Saturday! I spent the morning at a job fair for teachers in our district! I am happy to report that I will be moving to my first choice of schools next year!!! I am…well, let’s just say that glitter exploded all over Music City when I found out!!! I am going to miss my incredible teammates but change is good and this is a change for the best! WOOHOO!!!!!!
And now onto our week of Wacky Weather learning and fun. I always get asked “How do you fit it all in every day?” And I admit it just works. Well, this week was the week it didn’t work (You can now do the “I told you so” dance. AND STOP! Thanks.) Friday was a messed up day. There was a situation with a student that had me in and out all morning and that was topped off with having extra students because of a split class. So Friday was a bust. Nothing was accomplished And that’s OK However, there was another situation that Mr. Greg was quite excited about. It’s what we all love and know…it’s a TEACHABLE MOMENT!
What had happened was…we were reading Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs and the monsters began having a debate about whether or not they would want food to fall fro the sky!!! People, they were having a logical debate about why or why not food falling from the sky was a good thing or bad thing. Well, that changed our writing plans for the week and and it changed the stories we were reading because I knew we had to do persuasive writing. And so it was.
Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs! We used food to make a picture of ChewandSwallow! I’m sure the custodians hate me. But the cockroaches love me!
The writing says: “I want food to fall from the sky so I don’t have to waste my money on food!” How true is that?!
Some other reasons:
“I don’t want food to fall from the sky because it will break our house.” (Does insurance cover acts of food?!)
“I don’t want food to fall from the sky because it will land on my face.” (Pancake face is terrible.)
“I don’t want food to fall from sky and land on the ground and be messy.” (No one likes dirt with their food.)
And “I want food to fall from the sky because God made it.” Nuff said.
We pretended to be the wind and blew feathers!
We made glittery umbrellas. I promise they’re glittery! We got our supplies from our latest Donor’s Choose project and I totally forgot I had ordered glittery watercolor paints! Well, as soon as I opened that box, we put that glitter to use!
Some of our center adventures. I just wish you could hear the noise. It’s so funny because it’s a low murmur (or dull roar!) but if you listen carefully they’re reading, segmenting, reading sight words and working away. I’m sure visitors think it’s loud and chaotic but they really are hard at work. I swear….there is no discussion about lip gloss going on. Ever.
This week we were introduced to QR codes and the monsters (and Mr. Greg!) went CRAZY for them!! I bet you’ll be seeing a lot of these in the kindergarten smorgasboard from now on!
And of course, there are silly hats!!!
Today I was asked how do you know you’re being successful in kindergarten? When you see a smile this big covered in Scentos smelly markers. That is success my friends!
Here’s to smelly marker smiles!
I finished this up last night! It’s my newest common core creation! I grew up near Louisville so I love the Derby and all things Derby! Your kids will love these center activities because we all love horses!
And in case you want to try QR codes you can check out these freebies!
