Morning Meeting Greeting – Baseball

Happy Thursday!  It’s my Friday from school.  I took tomorrow off.  Sadly it’s not a fun or personal day.  I’m becoming an All-Star Technology Trainer for our district so I’ll be in training from 8-4:30 tomorrow and Saturday.  Yes, Saturday.  You can feel sorry for me now.  hehe  I look forward to learning some fun stuff.

Today I want to share our most recent morning meeting greeting.  I started doing this a few years ago and it’s always so fun!  It gets us up and moving and greeting each other!  And who doesn’t love some baseball?!

I tell the ‘staches we’re going to play baseball.  I write single (1), double (2), triple (3) and grand slam (4) on the board.  We talk about how you can hit the ball and get a single, double, triple or grand slam.

I place the cards face down on a stool.  I pick a student to start.  The student chooses a card and reads their “hit.”  Then they count that many people (starting at their original spot in the circle) and greet the person the stop on.  So, if I pick up a double card, I would count 2 people and greet person number 2.  The person who is greeted chooses a card and counts on from their spot while the original greeter returns to their spot.

As we get closer to the end, we start landing on the same people.  When this happens, we just move to the next person in the circle who hasn’t been greeted.

If you would like to try this in your class, you can click the picture to download a free set of cards!

Thank you Melonheadz for the awesome baseball clip art!
And since I will be out tomorrow, I wanted a fun activity for the ‘staches to do with the sub, so I whipped this up this morning before school!
Students will vote for who they think will win the big game and create a class graph.  They can record their data on their recording sheet!  Click the picture for your freebie!
