This week we’re kicking off our  community helpers research project!  This is a new adventure for us!  In the past we’ve talked about community helpers briefly but this is our first full on community helpers research project!

We will be using our Community Helpers research project to learn about the people who help us!

Also, check out our new Transportation research project that goes perfectly with community helpers!

For each community helper we will read an informational text.  As we read our text, we will complete our tree map.  We complete the tree map AS WE READ and not after!  Completing the tree map after the read aloud is a form of assessment and that’s not what I want to do!   Then we will label our community helpers and do a directed drawing of each one!  STAY TUNED FOR A BLOG POST!

This week we’re learning about doctors, nurses, mail carriers and garbage collectors!

We are reading these books this week:

We will also be using these books as a kick-off to our community helpers research projects.  These are a fun way to get kids predicting and inferring!  We read the books make predictions about who uses the tools and hats and wears the clothes.  I don’t tell the kids what we’re learning about.   We read the books and see if we can figure out that we are learning about community helpers!

Foodie Fun Friday

This week’s Foodie Fun Friday will be about community helpers!  We’re having a band-aid snack!  True story!  We use graham crackers, white frosting and red frosting to make this fun bandaid snack!  You can also make a stop light snack but we save this for our Black History Month research project!

Math-Ten Frames, Numbers And Number Bootcamp!

In math, we are using ten frames to practice number recognition and counting!  We continue Number Bootcamp 10-14.  This week we’re going to work on counting to 20 and then we’re going to up our game a bit and work on counting to 20!  These simple lessons will use ten frames and counters to really focus on one to one correspondence and number recognition!
