Phonics: Vowel Teams Bootcamp AR Words
This week we are starting Vowel Teams Bootcamp with AR words! We will make a circle map, build and write AR words and match AR words and pictures!
We also make this fun Shark AR Words Anchor chart!
Each student chooses a tooth, they read the word and add the word to the shark’s mouth!
Plants Research Project
In keeping with our district’s scope and sequence, we’re in the midst of our three week unit on living and non-living things. Last week, we learned what questions to ask to determine living and non-living things. Now we’re applying that knowledge and studying plants with our plants research project!
We start with a schema map to assess our background knowledge.
This week we will learn about plants using tree maps, labeling and the life cycle of plants. We record our learning on our graphic organizers and students then record their learning in their research journals!
We’re also planting bean seeds this week so we can apply our learning! The kids will observe the seeds as they grow and record their observations in their seed journals!

Math: Place Value
In math we are learning about tens and ones and place value.
We will be using our Place Value Resource this week!
Our focus with place value is identifying tens and ones and determining a number is ten and more ones. This year we are re-doing our lessons and they will go like this:
Day 1-we’re using ten frames and counters to make ten and more ones. Students will identify teen numbers as ten and ones.
Day 2-introduce base ten blocks with rods and cubes. Students will use the blocks to build numbers. This will also connect to our counting on skills.
Day 3-We will use number bonds to decompose teen numbers into ten and more ones.
Fourth Day- independent work (cut and paste match)
Day 5-assessment-flap book. Students write a number and draw the tens and ones!
