Sight Word Games

But we also play some fun sight word games!
We also do a lot of musical games! I have used our Sit Spots for these games! I’ve used index cards on chairs and when we learned about polar bears, we used polar bear paws!
Put the words in a circle, and crank up the music (the louder the better!) When the music stops, they read the word they are standing on! They can also decode the word, spell the word and they can have whiteboards to write the word!
Go on a sight word hunt! Write sight words on post-it notes. Students find the word, read the word, and write the word!
Our Sight Word 60 Creation has all the detailed instructions for each day compiled in one place for you, plus templates, word cards, parent letters, games/activities, and more! It’s available on TPT & in the TKS Store.
And then I use ESGI to assess our sight words!

To see all of the Sight Word 60 posts, start with Day 1!

I have found and startrd following you in the last month and 1/2. I have enjoyed & getting ideas from your posts in the past. I really enjoyed the week long idea of sight words. My biggest ohhhhhh moment was the app big words. Can't wait to start using this Monday. I read & watched this weeks videos and have a question. It appeared the only time the words were used as practice or used in lesson was on Friday as the games. Is that correct or after introduction on 1st day, did you have other times through day or week during group, centers or individual work times for the class to work on new words for spelling and writing words. Little brief background. I work with EBD kids grades K-3. So my day is NOTHING normal and always exciting. Thank you

What does the G: A: M: mean on your lesson plans for morning meeting? Greeting? Activity? Math? Thanks so much!! you tend to use zoom a lot – what is that?
There is a 5 day routine so we're reviewing and practicing during those times as well as during guided reading, centers and transition times!
G=greeting
M=message
A=activity
First year teacher and I came across your sight looking for new ways to teach my kids sight words. I was curious how you made the “Rooster” game, my kids would love that. It looked like it was something in the Smartboard software but it was hard to tell with the lighting in the video.
I would also love to know about the rooster game! My kids would LOVE IT!
I would love to know more about the rooster game too! Thank you for being an inspiration! I can't wait to use my new trampoline in our classroom this year!
The rooster game was made with our SmartBoard software. Just type the words and put a shape over the word and click animate when touched and it moves!
Are the polar bear paws available to download somewhere?
Hi Christine! This is just something that I made with some polar bear clip art. I didn’t actually make a unit or anything. You could easily make it with some polar bear clip art and then just add your words!
Hello, I love your ideas and was just at Elevate Philadelphia. I was sitting right in front. I was wondering is there a sequence you do your sight words? My literacy coach was super excited to do Sight word 60 this year.
Hi Jennifer! You can do them in any order you want but they are all listed in my Big Picture which is my pacing guide. You can find it in the Resource Center of the website. Hope that helps!
My teammate and I came to elevate in PA to see you over the summer and we have been talking about how awesome our experience was to everyone at our school who will listen! We introduced sight word 60 to the rest of our team and we are super excited to implement it this year. I was wondering what is done during the review week. Do you do the same 5 day process as the normal weeks and just use all of the words or is something different done?
During review week I do a PowerPoint with ALL the words (that review cycle & previous words) and then we play games to review the words!
For the day 5 graphing activity, do all students cut and glue all 4 sight words onto the graph, or do you give out one or two sight words to each student? After the class graph, is the an individual graph sheet for the students to fill in? Thanks!
Do you have a copy of the Sight Word Hunt page that students are working on the video? Thanks!
I just wrote our sight words on Post-it’s and placed them around the room and made a quick/simple recording sheet for them to write their words on!
I am an elementary LD teacher and work with K-5. I have kiddos in upper grades that need work on sight words and think this would be great! Many have short-term memory deficits and I was wondering if you have used this with students that have learning disabilities or developmental delays and how they responded? I like the repetition of it and I think that is key!
