It’s GROUNDHOG DAY! And we’re celebrating our beloved little whistle pig with our READ IT UP creation for Groundhog Gets A Say!
And now the groundhog fun. Also known as a whistle pig! True story.
We started off our day with groundhog facts! We learned a lot about groundhogs.
I love that they have learned so much about groundhogs!!!!

We also label the parts of a groundhog to build vocabulary!

Shadow or no shadow? We made our groundhog coins and predicted who would win. We flipped the coin and graphed our results and analyzed our data to see who the winner was! The coins are included in our Read It Up resource.

Will he or won’t we? We made this prediction the day before Groundhog Day! Then we watch a clip of Phil to see if our prediction was correct! (On Groundhog Day you can just Google Punxsutawney Phil and find a link to a news video to watch!)

Groundhog Snack!
Of course, we had our groundhog in a burrow snack! The best part was crumbling up the Oreo! The ears are chocolate chips!

Here’s another idea for a groundhog snack! We used a large brownie for the burrow, green icing for the grass, and a Teddy Graham for the groundhog!

The next best part was EATING! Num Num!
Of course, what would a holiday be without a silly hat?!
Groundhog Day Art
The students also made these adorable little groundhogs.

All of these activities and more are in our comprehensive READ IT UP creation for Groundhog Gets A Say!
