Our school hosts a meet-the-teacher night a few days before the first day of school. This allows students and families to meet me, see the classroom, drop off supplies, and pick up paperwork. A note about our back-to-school documents: they are mailed to the families in the summer. As soon as our students’ list shows up in our system, I send the packets. Meet The Teacher
Our school typically hosts meet-the-teacher night in two ways. We split it into two nights: Night 1 for PreK-1st grades and Night 2 for 2nd-4th grades. Alternatively, we hold it on one night, divided by last name. If your last name is A-L, you attend from 4:00 to 5:00, and if your last name is M-Z, you attend from 5:00 to 6:00. Administration makes this decision.
Meet The Teacher Night In Our Classroom
We designed our meet-the-teacher night to be very simple for both the families and me. I want the kids and families to explore the classroom and chat with me. I don’t have any activities for them to do. It’s just an opportunity to see the room, explore the room, and get to know each other.
I have a chart displayed that is all about me. This chart was made by the previous year’s class! This is a fun way for families to get to know me from a student perspective!
My Meet the Teacher night outfit is the jacket that the previous year’s class designed for me. At the end of the school year, students get to design my jacket. I wear this for our end-of-the-year celebration and then again for meet the teacher.
I also give the students a a pack of cookies! The cookies are alphabet cookies from Wal-Mart. They come in a box of 30.

I also include a sign-in sheet that asks for family members’ names, phone numbers, HOW THE KIDS GO HOME THE FIRST TWO HALF DAYS, and how they go home after those two half days.
