Teaching is hard. It’s emotional. It’s physically exhausting (my feet hurt so bad!) and mentally exhausting. It’s frustrating. It’s demanding. Right?! But then something happens that smacks us back to reality. Sure, it’s all of those things. But, this is what it’s all about, right?!
It’s all about helping them. Helping them feel safe. Secure. Loved. Happy. Successful. Helping them feel that they are important and that they matter. But what they sometimes don’t realize is that they help us too. More than we help them.
This week we are learning about clouds. It’s perfect since spring is never coming here in Nashville. It will be cloudy forever. Anyways, we are learning what makes clouds, what makes rain and names of clouds. Today we read one of my favorite books and did a fun art and writing project!
If you don’t have this book, get it! It’s great for kindergarten because it’s a pattern book (it repeats!) and it’s a great tie in for writing and art! It’s great for meeting common core writing standards and it’s a kindergarten smorgasboard fave!
You can also get a big book version! I have a big book and 3 regular books! The monsters love reading the regular books after we read the big book. They feel so special!
All you need for this project is blue construction paper and white paint!
Have students fold the paper vertically. Squirt white paint in the middle. I make sure to various patterns when I squirt the paint. Students close the paper and RUB! Oh, we love the rubbing!
After they have rubbed for a couple of minutes, open the paper!
BAM! Clouds!
Students then write what their cloud looks like!
A fish…
A lightning bug…
I love how these turned out! They are so fun and the monsters are so creative!
