A Kindergarten Smorgaboard Under The Sea Addition Center

Happy Monday!  Today was our first day back after our 2 week spring break.  My legs and feet HURT!  OUCH!  The monsters were really good today.  We did well with long and short vowels, with subtraction and learning about clouds!  Let’s hope this continues for the next 7 Mondays….not that I’m counting!
Storytime!  Story of the day!  My friend, “Whishle” came up to my randomly and rubbed my belly and said “How’s the baby?”  OUCH!  Must.  Go.  To.  Gym.  Apparently my stomach is much more pronounced that I realized.  My food baby is just fine, thank you.
I also showed the monsters pictures of the new house today.  They loved it.  One monster wants to be my twin so she can live in my house.  Another said, “Mr. Greg I love your floors.   They’re so clean!”  5 year olds are so easily impressed!
And now onto some common core fun in the kindergarten smorgasboard!
Since we are moving onto subtraciton, I want teh monsters to keep enhancing their addition skills.  They are so good at adding that I don’t want them to lose it.  That being said, I am filling up our math tubs with addition centers!  I created this one a few years ago and it’s still a hit!   It’s CHEAP and EASY!  It’s a $5 trip to Wal-Mart and 10 minutes of set up!  BAM!  And really, who doesn’t love adding with animals?!
You can purchase these animal plates for a few dollars.  Then place stickers in the ears with numbers.
Students use manipulatives or counters to solve the addition problem.

The center was origianlly designed for the monsters to use a dry erase board, but I like having them do some type of recording sheet (keeps them accountable) so I whipped up these free recording sheets.
(I included sea life and jungle animals to go with both sets of plates!)
