A Kindergarten Smorasboard Schedulin’ Sunday!

Howdy ya’ll and HAPPY EASTER!  I’ve hope you have enjoyed this day with your family and friends!  I had brunch with the mister and my best friend and worked on lesson plans!  Our 2 week spring break has ended so it’s back to the monsters tomorrow!  I am excited to see the monsters but I really want to stay home and enjoy the new house some more!  Speaking of the new house, I am extra excited about today’s post because it is the first Schedulin’ Sunday post from the new Kindergarten Smorgasboard World Headquarters!

This week we will celebrate a little bit of Easter (Yes, I know Easter is today but we can still enjoy the holiday, right!?) and we will be learning about clouds and vowels!  It’s a SUPER busy week but with only 8 weeks left I have to work the monsters hard to get in all of our learning!

Monday

We kick off our return with the story There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Chick.  After reading the story the monsters will retell the story by using a flowmap to sequence the story.
We will be working on long and short vowels this week.  Today we start with A.  We will do a word sort listening for sort A and long A sounds.  I will be using this great resource from www.havefunteaching.com .
This week we also start working on subtraction.  We have introudced subtraction throughout the year and have used it during our mental math time, but this is 2 weeks of subtraction!  We start off by learning that subtraction means taking away.  We will read the big book Five Little Monkey’s Jumping On The Bed.  We discuss how we started with 5 and took 1 away and had 4 and so on.  After reading the story, we will act out the story with the monsters!  We will do some practice using our manipulatives and close out the lesson with a practice page!
You can get a set of practice pages by clicking here to visit the freebies page!
We also start learning about weather this week.  We kick off weather learning about clouds.  Today we will braingstorm ideas of what clouds can look like!  I love seeing the hilarious ideas the monsters come up with (by far, my favorite is Justin Bieber!)!  After we brainstorm our ideas, we will read The Cloud Book by Tomie Depaola.  We will discuss different types of clouds and their names.  We also start to talk about how clouds form from water and when they’re full of water it rains.

We end our day with a craftivity, of course!  We will be doing this super cute chick craftivity!
Tuesday

Easter continues in our classroom with the story The Night Before Easter.  After we read the story the monsters will complete a story map.
We continue our long and short vowel study with the letter O.  (I am skipping around so E and I come later in the week since they’re the most challenging!)
We will use our brainstorming from Monday to complete a predictable chart about clouds.  “Clouds can look like…”
In math, we continue our subtraction fun.  We will review that subtraction means take away.  We will practice subtracting to 5 using manipulatives.  We will close out the lesson with a practice page.
Cloud week continues with a review of cloud types and names.  We will read the book It Looked Like Spilled Milk.  We will squirt white paint on blue construction paper and fold it and make a cloud.  The monsters will then write what their cloud looks like!

Wednesday
We continue our Easter stories with the book, Last One In Is A Rotten Egg!  After reading the story we will make text to self connections and complete a story map.
We will also work on our vowels.  Today we will do a short and long U sort.
The monsters will work on writing about their clouds using our predictable chart from Tuesday.
In math, we will continue working on subtraction.  Today we will use jelly beans to help us subtract.  After we practice subtracting, the monsters will sort and graph their jelly beans.  And then we can eat our jelly beans!
We will continue cloudy week with a review of cloud types and cloud names.  We will start working on our super fun and super cute cloud people project!
Thursday
Cloudy vowel week continues!  We will read the story The Easter Egg by Jan Brett and the monsters will sequence the story to practice re-telling.
We will continue working on long and short vowels.  Today we will work on the letter I!
Subtraction week continues in math.  Today the monsters will complete a practice page and work in math centers (which are full of new centers!!!) while I work in small groups with the monsters who need more help with subtraction!
Cloudy week continues with a fun science experiment!  We will use shaving cream and food coloring to help us understand how clouds make rain when they are full of water!
We will also celebrate Easter with a super cute bunny craftivity from Kimberly at Creative Teaching!  Check it out!
Friday
We made it!  It’s time to wrap up our week!  We will read the story Happy Easter Mouse and complete  a story map. We also wrap up our vowels with the letter E.
We will publish and illustrate our cloud writing.
In math, we will do a subtraction assessment and enjoy our new math centers.
The monsters will finish up their cloud people and we will make….wait for it…a HAT!  You know we can’t go a week without a hat!
This week’s hat comes from my friend Sylvia at Learning With Mrs. Parker!
For our foodie fun Friday we will make raindrops and clouds!  The monsters will layer blueberries (raindrops) and whipped cream (clouds) to make a fun snack!
And that’s our common core, hands on, engaging week of fun, learning, laughter and chaos!
Of course, we will do our Word Study daily, our calendar daily, we write in our journals daily!  We will read our poem and emergent reader daily!  And we will sing and dance and dance and laugh!

I am linking up with my amazing friend, Mrs. Willis for her lesson plan linky party!  Go check out all the amazing lesson plans!

Don’t forget!  20% off until tonight!
