Who doesn’t love a good, gooey, messy hands on science experiement?
Who doesn’t love chocolate?!
How about a Mad Science Experiment that covers both?!?!?!?!
It’s CHOCOLATE SCIENCE!!!
You need a Kit Kat, Nestle Crunch, Twix, Snickers and Hershey Kisses!  You will need enough kisses for each child in your class to have 1!
And a large bowl of water.
Using the recording sheet, predict whether each candy bar will sink or float!  We have done several sink or float experiments so we know the difference, but a litter review is always good!  Sink it goes down and float it stays up!
After we made our predictions, we conducted our experiment!
We just put the candy bars in the water!
And the results!
And then we got to the gooey part of the experiment!
How long will it take a Hershey Kiss to melt in your mouth?!?!?!
Have each child predict how long it will take the kiss to melt in their mouth.  Record their predictions on a class chart.
(TIP:  you have to tell them not to move the kiss or use their tongue.  The kiss just sits on their tongue to melt….no speeding up the process!!!)
I used  my phone as a timer.  I started the timer and when one of the ‘staches finished, I recorded their time!

(PS  Extra bonus:  it was totally silent…you want quiet time?!  Give them a Hershey Kiss and tell the kids to let it melt in their mouth!)
Thanks to my friend Marie at The Hands On Teacher In First for the great science experiment!
