Happy Schedulin’ Sunday! This week we are continuing on our 3 week journey around the world to celebrate Christmas Around The World! We will be visiting a different country each day learning about how they celebrate Christmas! We’re also working on 3D shapes and 2D shapes!
And as always you can download my lesson plans by clicking the image below!
Christmas Around The World
The ‘staches will be using my Holidays Around The World research creation to learn how different countries celebrate the holidays! Week 2 of Christmas Around The World will be awesome!
For each country, we “fly” to the country using Google Earth. Before we can take off, every child receives their own airplane ticket for the flight! Then we read a book about Christmas in the country we are visiting. We record our learning on our country chart. The ‘staches record the learning in their research journal. We stamp our passports. And finally we make a craft for each country! The flag for each country is also displayed in our classroom!
This week for Christmas Around The World we’re visiting: Australia, Sweden, India, Israel and South Africa!
Australia-Read Christmas Wombat and we make a torn paper wreath with lots of glitter!
Sweden-Read St. Lucia In The Morning and make Star Boy and Star Girl hats.
Israel-Read The Night Before Hanukkah and make paper plate menorahs.
India-Read Tell Me About Diwali and make paper plate diyas.
South Africa-Read A Storm In The Baobab Tree and make
For Foodie Fun Friday we have a snack that represents something we learned about each country:
Meatballs-Sweden
Curry-India
Latkes and Applesauce-Israel
Crab dip-Australia
Malva Pudding-South Africa

Math
This week we’re working on 2D and 3D shapes and position words.
We will be using my Shapes Bootcamp resource.
For each 3D shape we will make a bubble map: faces, vertices, slide, stack, real objects
We will sort 3D shapes:
The ‘staches will build shapes with yarn and we will use position words to describe where are our friends are:

We will build 2D and 3D shapes with marshmallows and toothpicks!
The students will make an art project inspired by the artist Kaninsky using shapes.

We are also continuing with word family bootcamp! This week we’re going to be reading and writing words from all of the word families that we’ve learned! We will also be focusing on the word families that our data shows we need more work with! Thanks to ESGI I’ve been assessing our word families and I can now focus in on the word families that challenged us!
