February is Black History Month and we spend the month learning about African American heroes who have changed the world.  As part of Black History Month for kids, we also spend a lot of time talking about ways we can make a difference.

Black History Month For Kids

We use our African American Heroes Research Project.  Each day we learn about a different hero.  We start with local heroes who have connections to our city and state.  We also make sure to learn about living heroes that our students recognize.

For each person, we do a read-aloud and watch a YouTube video.  Then we discuss that person.  We talk about the things that happened to this person and what this person did to change the world.  Then we discuss what we learned from that person and how we can change the world or make a difference.

Then, we fill out our graphic organizer for that person, and we write about that person.
