Week 21 of kindergarten is going to be interesting. We have been out of school for the entire week due to snow. We might go back on Monday or Tuesday. So, it will be like coming back from winter break all over again. We shifted some of our lesson plans to this week and added in penguin activities!

BLENDS BOOTCAMP
We have a required foundational skills curriculum that we follow and supplement with our TKS BOOTCAMP resource, especially for extra practice and small group work! Our curriculum has made the switch to blends so we will be moving to Blends Bootcamp. Our TKS BOOTCAMP curriculum works with ALL curriculums or as a stand-alone resource! This week, we are using Blends Bootcamp to focus on words with blends, blending and decoding words, writing words, and lots of word chaining!
Blends Bootcamp is about taking the sounds we learned in ABC BOOTCAMP and using them to read words. For five weeks, we do two blends a week with a focus on using all the sounds to decode, spell, write, and read words. This week we will do one blend to get the students used to the routines.
We do a circle chart, word building, word writing, and a word match activity. This is the same routine we do with all of our TKS BOOTCAMP CURRICULUM. This consistency is what a key piece of what makes TKS BOOTCAMP so effective.
Blends Bootcamp is an all-inclusive resource that is aligned with the science of reading! Blends Bootcamp includes whole group lessons, small group lessons, decodable readers, and centers!
Intervention And Word Family Bootcamp
We also have an intervention hour, so we will be using this time for our Word Family Bootcamp word match activities and look like word activities.
We will also be using our Word Mapping mats during this time to work on our segmenting, spelling, and reading words!
We’re also using our Digital Word Building Resource to do word chaining to work on blending CVC words!
We also used our glitter letters clipart to make glitter letter cards and we’ve been using these cards in whole group and small groups. The kids LOVE them! (This is CLIPART. You will need to insert the letter clipart into a document to make letter cards!)
Sight Word 60
This week are the words: of, and, to in
Reading
Once again, this year, we’re using our required reading curriculum and supplementing it with our Read It Up! resources and TKS research projects. This week, we read the fairy tale Three Billy Goats Gruff. We’re focusing on problem and solution and comparing characters!
We will also make some trolls!
Math
Our district has adopted a new math curriculum (AGAIN!), so we’re trying to figure it out because it’s a lot, and it’s not aligned with our state standards, so there’s that. We’re using the curriculum and supplementing it with our MATH IT UP! resources!
This week we’re working on counting 11-20. We built in small group days this week to review and work with students who need some extra support.
For one counting lesson, we’re using our number paths. First, students will use their counters to count on the number path and then write the number on the whiteboard.
Another lesson uses ten frames for counting! First, the students get a bag, dump out the counters, then count with ten frames, and finally write the number!
Penguins Research Project
This week we’re going to be doing some of our favorite penguin activities with our Penguins Research Project!
We use read-alouds, videos, and our Penguins Research Project to learn about penguins.
All of our research projects start with a schema map. Students share what they know about penguins, and we add the schema. We add new learning and address misconceptions as we learn about penguins.
We will label penguins and create a graphic organizer about penguins.
Penguin Activities And Art Projects
We will make a penguin hat, paint symmetrical penguins, and draw a penguin this week!
Mad Science Thursday
In honor of winter and snow, we’re making snow slime!
Foodie Fun Friday-Troll Snack
Morning Meeting
This week, our greeting is a snowball fight! I print pictures and names of the kids on paper. We wad them up and throw to have a snowball fight. Kids grab a snowball and greet their friends!
