So you have your center management system in place. It’s January, and you’re ready to change kindergarten centers, but what January centers and activities do you put in your tubs/bins/centers? This post shows you the Winter centers and activities we use in January. Because our TKS centers are designed to be teacher—and kid-friendly, the kids will be able to grab an activity and do it without instruction. That’s the beauty of our center resources!

What Types Of Activities And Games Do You Use In Your January Centers?
- matching (letters, numbers, sounds, counting, sight words, ten frames and numbers)
- puzzles (letters, numbers, counting, sounds)
- spinners (letters, numbers, sounds)
- word building (CVC words, sight words)
We’re continuing to differentiate centers and moving the groups forward with their skills: one group focusing on spelling and writing CVC words, two groups focusing on sounds and decoding CVC words, and one group focusing on letter recognition and sounds. And we still maintain that simplicity! That’s the beauty of TKS centers: they’re low prep and are flexible, so you can make the activities work in multiple ways 1 activity can be two, three, or four different activities!

January Centers: DIY Ideas
This January math centers idea uses disco ball ornaments! I make giant ten frames using construction paper. Students choose a number card, make the ten frame with the disco balls, and then write the number and make the ten frame on the recording sheet!
This winter center uses disco ball plates and mini disco balls from Amazon. I put a dot sticker on the plate and wrote numbers. Students choose a plate, say the number, count the correct number of disco balls, and use the recording sheet to record their work.
