Week 13 is here, and it’s a short week for us because we have Veterans Day off. So, of course, we’ve packed the week with Turkey Trouble activities for kindergarten, Thanksgiving activities for kindergarten, addition and subtraction, Three Little Pigs, and more! Keep reading to see what we have planned for the week!

Word Family Bootcamp: Decoding and Spelling CVC Words
Now that we’ve finished ABC BOOTCAMP, we’re moving on to Word Family Bootcamp and CVC words. While we’ve been working with CVC words during ABC BOOTCAMP, now is when we focus on them. We’re going to explicitly teach segmenting, decoding, blending, spelling, writing, and reading CVC words. We do circle charts, dictation, decodable texts, lots of blending and decoding practice, and lots of fun games! This week is UG and UT words!

This week is also a targeted stop in our required foundational skills curriculum, so we are focusing on sound fluency and CVC words with fun, interactive games and lessons!
First up, out Turkey CVC words! Students will use turkey feathers to spell and decode cvc words. The class will be writing the words on whiteboards. We will also incorporate word chaining!

We’re also using our Mnemonic Sound cards for the same lesson”

And we’re going digital for the lessons using our Digital Word Building resource! Same lesson. Same skills but with a little tech involved!

Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: Sight Words
This week we’re continuing Sight Word 60 and explicit instruction with sight words. We do them in order of our phonics skills, so they align (as best they can…don’t stress this and don’t let socials harass you about this…) to our phonics instruction.

The routine is this:
Monday-introduce the words
Tuesday and Wednesday-review the words and use them in a sentence
Thursday-sight word grid
Friday-game

Three Little Pigs Activities
This week we continue our farm unit by going back to The Three Little Pigs. When we kicked off this module, the curriculum had us read the book once, and now, two weeks later, we’re going back. Like, why?? But here we go! This week we’re doing a story map, problem solution and text evidence. We will use the text evidence to write a sentence about one of the characters!

Kindergarten addition and subtraction activities
This week, we continue our join and separate” unit in math. Our required curriculum calls it join and separate. We call it add and subtract. This week is a review week so we’re having some fun with our lessons for two days of turkey addition and two days of targeted small groups!
The kids put feathers on the turkey and we write and solve the equation!

Turkey Trouble Activities For Kids
This week we are reading one of my favorite Thanksgiving books: Turkey Trouble! I love how fun this book is and how it ties perfectly to disguising a turkey! So of course, we’re kicking off our disguise a turkey project this week too! We do predictions, a story map and then we write about what our turkey disguise would be and where we would go if we were the turkey!

Thanksgiving activities for kindergarten
We have two turkey art projects planned for the week: our rainbow turkeys and a directed drawing of a turkey!

And since our required curriculum has a stopping point, we’re going to use some turkeys to assess our phonics skills and do one of our favorite projects: Phonics Turkeys! I assess kids on CVC words or sounds. They color their feathers and make their phonics turkeys!

Foodie Fun Friday: Turkey Cookie
This week our Foodie Fun Friday snack is a turkey cookie!
