Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: Word Family Bootcamp
Now that we’ve finished ABC BOOTCAMP, we’re moving on to Word Family Bootcamp and CVC words. While we’ve been working with CVC words during ABC BOOTCAMP, now is when we focus on them. We’re going to explicitly teach segmenting, decoding, blending, spelling, writing, and reading CVC words. We do circle charts, dictation, decodable texts, lots of blending and decoding practice, and lots of fun games! This week is OG and OT words!

Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: Sight Words
This week we’re continuing Sight Word 60 and explicit instruction with sight words. The kids did so well with week 1! I was pleasantly surprised, so I can’t wait to see how well they do this week! We do them in order of our phonics skills, so they align (as best they can…don’t stress this and don’t let socials harass you about this…) to our phonics instruction.

The routine is this:
Monday-introduce the words
Tuesday and Wednesday-review the words and use them in a sentence
Thursday-sight word grid
Friday-game

Kindergarten Activities And Lessons: Farms
This week we continue our farm unit by learning about farm animals. We spend two days building our evidence organizer, and then we write and draw about a farm animal!

Kindergarten Math Activities: Subtraction To 10 With Equations
This week, we continue our join and separate” unit in math. Our required curriculum calls it join and separate. We call it add and subtract. This week we’re adding equations! BUT we are making a change to the curriculum’s pacing. The curriculum has us switch from adding to subtracting every other day, and we find that too confusing for the kids. So we’re teaching the 4 lessons this week and next week, BUT this week we’re just doing subtraction.
This week we’re going to subtract cookies (literally the curriculum lesson except the curriculum is just slides) by using Cookie Crisp cereal!

And for the rest of the week, we’re going to do Five Little Pumpkins (OK…TEN little pumpkins LOL). We’re going to read the book Too Many Pumpkins to kick off the lessons. And we’re going to subtract pumpkins. I’m making 10 pumpkin manipulatives with cardstock. We will write equations and use the pumpkins to practice subtraction.
Halloween Activities For Kindergarten: CREEPY WEEK!
This week, celebrate creepy week with three of our favorites: Creepy Carrots, Creepy Underwear, and Creepy Crayon! Each day will be dedicated to one of the stories and will include: a story map, graphing, hats, snacks, and art projects!

We will be doing lots of comprehension activities, art projects and making a fun Spookley snack!

And of course, we’re making hats and a snack!

Halloween Activities For Kindergarten: Read Alouds
This week we are reading a couple of the books from the Old Lady series: The Old Lady Who Swallowed A Ghost and the classic, There Was an Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything!

Halloween Activities For Kindergarten: Exploding Ghosts Science Project
This week our Mad Science Thursday experiment is Exploding Ghosts!

Halloween Activities For Kindergarten: Halloween
Oh Halloween. The sugar. The crash. The costumes. But at least this year Halloween is on a Saturday and the day after Halloween is a Sunday! Of course we’re still celebrating. And we’re continuing our tradition of planting flowers in pumpkins! No big party with too many sweets. Instead we cut open pumpkins and fill them with potting soil and flowers!
