Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: Word Family Bootcamp
Now that we’ve finished ABC BOOTCAMP, we’re moving on to Word Family Bootcamp and CVC words. While we’ve been working with CVC words during ABC BOOTCAMP, now is when we focus on them. We’re going to explicitly teach segmenting, decoding, blending, spelling, writing, and reading CVC words. We do circle charts, dictation, decodable texts, lots of blending and decoding practice, and lots of fun games! This week is AT and AP words!

Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: Sight Words
This week we’re officially starting Sight Word 60 and explicit instruction with sight words. This is a little later than we normally start, but my class wasn’t ready for sight words, so we waited. We use a list of 50 words that show up on our benchmark assessment. We do them in order of our phonics skills, so they align (as best they can…don’t stress this and don’t let socials harass you about this…) to our phonics instruction.

The routine is this:
Monday-introduce the words
Tuesday and Wednesday-review the words and use them in a sentence
Thursday-sight word grid
Friday-game

Kindergarten Activities And Lessons: Farms And Three Little Pigs
This week we start the second unit of our required curriculum with our Farm module. This week we’re focusing on questions and answers with Three Little Pigs and Farm Animals!

Kindergarten Math Activities: Addition To 10 With Equations
This week, we continue our join and separate” unit in math. Our required curriculum calls it join and separate. We call it add and subtract. This week we’re adding equations! BUT we are making a change to the curriculum’s pacing. The curriculum has us switch from adding to subtracting every other day, and we find that too confusing for the kids. So we’re teaching the 4 lessons this week and next week, BUT this week we’re just doing addition, and next week will be subtraction.
This week we’re going to add monster teeth and pumpkin seeds! We’re using the same activities in the curriculum but changing the manipuatlives/theme. The focus is on reading and writing equations! So that’s what we’re doing.

Pumpkin Activities For Kindergarten: Spookley The Square Pumpkin
This week our beloved friend Spookley The Square Pumpkin turns 25 years old, and of course we’re celebrating! All week long, but especially Wednesday, when we’re hosting the official Spookley Birthday Party! So Wednesday is SPOOKLEY THE SQUARE PUMPKIN DAY!

We will be doing lots of comprehension activities, art projects and making a fun Spookley snack!

And of course, we’re making hats and a snack!

Pumpkin Activities For Kindergarten: Pumpkin Day
This week we have our first field trip of the school year! We’re headed to the pumpkin patch on Thursday so we decided instead of a week or two pumpkin unit, we’re doing PUMPKIN DAY on Friday after we return from the pumpkin patch!

And for our art project, we’re doing torn paper pumpkins using a paper plate!
And making a pumpkin patch snack: chocolate pudding cups, crushed Oreos, and candy corn pumpkins!
