Weekly Lesson Plans For ABC BOOTCAMP
This week we’re continuing ABC BOOTCAMP! The fun, the cutting skills, and the growth that we have with ABC BOOTCAMP are what make it a must-do! This week, we’re doing E L B R. We’re once again following the order of our required district curriculum.
We do a circle chart for each letter, which has explicit instructions for sounds and letters using a sounds-first approach. We also do explicit handwriting instruction. And we also make a hat to build phonemic awareness and vocabulary while practicing cutting skills.
For handwriting, I explicitly model how to form each letter, and students practice independently!
We also practice writing the letter during our morning message!
And, of course, we make our ABC BOOTCAMP hats! This week, we’re making an egg, a bee, a ladybug and a rainbow!
Weekly Lesson Plans: Phonemic Awareness Bootcamp
This week we also continue Phonemic Awareness Bootcamp! Phonemic Awareness Bootcamp is all about hearing the sounds and the oral language. We start with sentences and work our day down to sounds in words, segmenting etc. This research-based resource is designed for each lesson to take about 10 minutes, and then we move to ABC BOOTCAMP, which has explicit phonics and combines sounds and letters. This week in Phonemic Awareness Bootcamp, we’re working on skill 3, which is hearing beginning sounds. We do a circle chart of pictures to identify beginning sounds. This is different from ABC BOOTCAMP because there is no written text.
Weekly Lesson Plans: Last Stop On Market Street
This week we’re reading Last Stop On Market Street and using our Read It Up! resource to build comprehension skills.
This week, we’re working on questions and answers, retelling a story, and collecting evidence and details.
Weekly Lesson Plans: Community Helpers
This week our social studies unit is all about community helpers! We’re learning about community helpers and building content knowledge and vocabulary. We do community helpers and American symbols leading up to September 11th.
This week we’re learning about firefighters, police officers, nurses and teachers! For each community helper, we do a read-aloud, complete a graphic organizer, and label the community helper!
For each community helper, we also do a directed drawing!
Weekly Kindergarten Lesson Plans: Comparing Numbers
This week we’re continuing Number Bootcamp with numbers 18-20!
This week our curriculum has a five-lesson “unit” on comparing numbers to 10. We’ve taken the curriculum activities and made them into something more hands-on, not just looking at slides! I’m adding these activities to our Math It Up! comparing numbers resource.
Here’s what we have planned:
Day 1 and 2: Comparing stations. I’m making bags of objects. There will be 1-10 objects per bag. At each station, the students will work with a partner to count the number of objects and talk about which bag has more or less. Then, they move on to the next station. We want the kids to write numbers, so I’m making a recording sheet for the activity. On day 2, we will just mix up the bags!
Day 3-S’mores! We will use pretzel sticks and mini marshmallows to talk about 1 more and 1 less. The idea is to put a number of marshmallows on the pretzel stick. Then we will add 1 or remove 1 to make more or less.
Day 4- Stickers! Each student will get a sheet of stickers and a recording sheet. They will put their stickers on their sheet. They will find a partner and discuss who has more or less. At the end of the lesson, they will write how many stickers.
Introducing Centers
This week, we are continuing to introduce and practice centers! We started with our literacy tubs, and this week, we will introduce the sensory bin!
Weekly Lesson Plans: Foodie Fun Friday
This week, we will be making a band-aid snack! We use graham crackers and frosting to make a Band-aid!
Weekly Kindergarten Lesson Plans: Morning Meeting
This week, our greeting will be “We are here!” We chant: “we are here, we are here, it’s a great day because…is here!”
