Kindergarten Lesson Ideas: Phonics And Phonemic Awareness

This week, we’re on week four of Vowel Teams Bootcamp. Yes. I am doing vowel teams or vowel pairs with my kids. Why? Well, we’re ready. I don’t do this every year, but this is one of the years when my kids were ready, so we’re giving them access to even more of the code!
This week we move on to OR words! My kids should do well with this because we’ve been using this sound all year thanks to Secret Stories.
We will do a circle chart to segment, spell, and blend the sounds to read the words.

Then we do CORN WORDS! The words are written on corn kernels. We decode the words and glue them onto the corn cob.

And since we’re reading Dragons Love Tacos this week, we’re doing some fun dragon phonics! We will feed the dragon tacos by decoding the words. And we will feed the dragon tacos to spell words! And I really need to work on my dragon drawing skills…

Kindergarten Lesson Plans: Dragons Love Tacos
This week, we’re reading the book Dragons Love Tacos, of course. We will create a story map to work on story elements and teach a lesson on personification and do a fun writing activity about animals who love food! We’re also graphing our favorite taco and drawing a dragon!

And of course, we’re going to eat TACOS!

We’re also doing some fun centers to go with our tacos!

Kindergarten Resources: Subtraction
We have officially completed our required math curriculum, so the rest of the year we’re gonna have all the math fun. I love this time because I can let my teacher’s creativity go wild! And that’s what we’re doing this week! I have some fun subtraction games and activities planned.
Here are the ideas for the week:
- Subtract tacos-this will be story problems. One student will solve the problem using taco cutouts. The rest of the class will write and solve equations on whiteboards
- Deal and subtract-we’re using number cards to make equations. Students will solve the equations on whiteboards
- Chasing chickens-writing equations on yellow balloons (chickens), and students will chase the chickens. When they catch the chicken, they will write and solve the equations.

Kindergarten Lesson Plans: Backwards Bootcamp
This week our Backwards Bootcamp letters are: m, l, k, j, and i. M is for mustaches, L is for lollipops, k is for kings, j is for jeans and i is for ice cream!
Each day, we do a word web for the letter, an activity or snack, or dress up for the letter. This year, we’re bringing back our ABC BOOTCAMP hats and making a hat each day!

Kindergarten Lessons: Morning Meeting
Our morning meeting greeting is a taco greeting. I put the kids pictures on tacos. We choose a taco and greet our friend!
