I am a little guy. 5’7″. Shorty. But I have giant feet. Size 10 or 11. Crazy huh?
A day in my shoes is LONG! I teach at an enhanced option school which means we are an extended day. Our students are in school from 7:45-3:45. Even Kindergartners.
5:15 Alarm goes off. I grunt and groan and hit snooze. If I hit snooze too many times the fiancee’ gets upset.
5:30 I’m out of bed and in the shower.
6:00 I am out the door.
6:15 Sonic run! The nice ladies at Sonic know me and my schedule and what I have. Large coke zero with light ice. Fridays it’s a Route 44 Coke with light ice.
6:30 Arrive at school and prepare materials for the day. Sharpen pencils, copy, etc.
7:45 Bell rings and kids storm come to the room.
Morning meeting, journals, announcements.
8:15-10:10 Literacy block
10:10-11:10 Specials/planning. This time is usually spent in unnecessary wasteful important and valuable meetings.
11:10-:11:45 Writing
11:50-12:20-Lunch
12:20-12:50-Calendar/singing math songs
12:50-1:20 Recess
1:30-2:00 Intervention
2:00-3:00-Math
3:00-3:25 Art/Science/Social Studies/Cooking/Catch up
3:25-3:40 Closing meeting
3:45 Dismissal
4:00 I’m fleeing strolling out of the building with my amazing teacher cart. I promise I’ve never run over anyone with my cart. Intentionally.
5:00 Home. Stupid Nashville traffic. It’s a gas pedal people and it’s on the right. Push it.
6:00-Fiancee’ arrives, Butters goes crazy. Dinner
7:00 gym/running. Or at least the discussion of going to the gym or going running.
8:00-10:00 TV (9:30 I’m falling asleep on the couch snoring, the fiancee’ is waking me up and I get angry so I storm up the stairs. True story.)
10:30-Bed. The Golden Girls are on the tv. Butters is in the middle of the bed. The fan is blowing on my face.
12:00 Still awake…
And sometime after that I fall asleep dreading that obnoxious alarm clock.
