Therapy Thursday: November 2012

It’s Thursday so if you’re like me, you’re in need of a little therapy to get you through one more day!  Well I have a few therapies to share with ya!

So, I had my observation yesterday!  I honestly knew it was coming (um, I was the only one in the building who hadn’t been observed…) but it was an unannounced so I didn’t know when it would be.  It was yesterday!  First of all, my kids rocked it!  Secondly, I did the exact same things we do every day.  In the same way.  With the same kids.  Well…based on past experience I am expecting to get 2s and 3s.  It’s par for the course at my school.  Well….the word on the streek (street…streek is the word for street in our home!  Aren’t we fun?!)  is that the observer is “raving” about my lesson and was so excited by what she saw!  I’ve heard this from not one…but two…sources.  I officially find out tomorrow but this really gave me a boost when I was at the bottom of my short and rapidly burning rope!

Therapy number two!

You have heard of the smorgasboard of adventures with my ELL friend and the great progress we’ve made!  Well, last week said ELL friend was absent.  And hasn’t been back since.  We did some calling and emailing (we don’t have a translator for their dialect so we have to call a translator of a different language to translate to another language to translate to their dialect…yeah, that’s it…I think…or is that lost in translation?!) to make sure everything is OK.  Sadly, their apartment was broken into two nights in a row and the parents called a friend in another part of the city and moved.  Sad.  Sad.  Day.   We are in the process of setting up a rotation for teachers to pick up my friend and her sister so they can continue to attend our school and their structure will not be disrupted.  Here’s the therapy part to boost ya up!  This morning one of my little monsters came to me and said, “Is Bob (we’ll call her Bob and if you watch Modern Family you will get my reference to Lilly.  Ummm, I wonder if I can reference Lilly in every post?!  HMMM) coming back?”  I said she was.  My little monster says, “Pinky promise?” and sticks out her pinky.  That is the love my students share for one another.  They want a pinky promise that their friend will return.  They have such a vested interest in Bob because they have taken her under their wings since day one.  They are the reason Bob loves school and isn’t afraid of the big, loud, dancing, singing, jumping, funny talking mad man anymore!  I love seeing my children succeed academically but nothing is more powerful and potent than when they succeed at love and friendship.  The lessons we can learn from those monsters, if we only open our eyes to those lessons.

And my final therapy (the spaghetti is almost done….I forgot my lunch today so I am ready for some pasta and garlic bread!)  is a funny moment brought to you by my friend Whishle!

W:  “Brown is my favorite color.”
“I wish I were brown.”

Me;  “What color are you?”

W:  “Brown.”

How many times have you wished you could be the same color as your favorite color?!  I would rock some pink skin I think!

And this is the Thanksgiving art project we did today!  I saw this over at The Lower Elementary Cottage and just had to it!  So we squeezed it in today!  Oh, how I love anything hand print art project related!  Stop by this great blog for more fun ideas!  And tell them Greg sent ya!
