Happy Monday!!! Why am I always most exhausted on Monday?!
I normally wait until Saturday to show off what we did in class during the week but today’s activity was such a huge success that I have to share it NOW!
This weekend while lesson planning, I was scouring Pinterest for a fun ten frame/counting activity. I ran across a pin for a living ten frame. The pin directed me to Chalk Talk and their idea for living ten frames. As soon as I saw the idea I knew that would be my Monday math kick off!
I used mustache (DUH!) duct tape to tape off a ten frame on our classroom floor. I kept it under the rug until math time. We talked about ten frames, what they were used for, how they helped us and then we talked about using our math counters on our ten frames. Then I ripped back the carpet and they were in awe. I asked what counters we had that were big enough and they couldn’t figure it out. I told them that we were going to use ourselves as the counters! Hello engaged and excited!

Absolutely LOVE this idea! I have a supply of colorful duct tape and will be making the ten frame this week. Do you just roll your rug up to display the 10-frame and then roll it back over when you're finished? Space is always an issue, and I'm thinking that would keep the tape intact for longer.
GREAT! A new project ! Haha! Thanks Mr. Greg
I love the human ten frames! I'm sure my second graders will love it too!

What a fun engaging way to do 10 frames! Great idea to keep it under the rug! My janitors are a little picky about the kind of tape we put on the floor, sticky residue and such. They will never even know it's there!
I have a tens frame duct taped under my rug that i use with my kiddies often-but I never thought of using them as the manipulatives…..I am definitely going to do this!!!!!! Also totally bought the d app to turn my iPad into a smart board…..so excited to use it this year!! Thank you soooo much!!!!
I love your blog!! You have really amazing ideas! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful idea with us.
I am getting up from my chair right now to make a tape ten frame!
