Happy Super Bowl Sunday!  I love the Super Bowl!  The commericals.  The food.  The halftime show. And really, it’s just another reason for a great party!

Well, Super Bowl Sunday means lesson plan Sunday here at The Kindergarten Smorgasboard World Headquarters!  Actually I finished my plans Friday night but I’m hard at work on preparing for the week and that means I’m gonna share my plans and ideas for the week!  Hopefully you find something you can use or something that inspires you!

Let’s get started!  How about a 100th day celebration on Monday!?  Yep.  It’s our 100th day celebration!  Postponed from Friday due to Mr. Greg being at training!  We’re going to rock this party!  We’re dressing up as 100 year old people (wait until you see the wig The Mister got me…EPIC!), we’re eating 100 snacks, we’re doing 100 exercises and writing 100 words and hunting for 100 Hershey kisses…. AND…. of course we’re making a hat!
Tuesday we will hopefully settle into our routine and have some groundhog fun.  Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know.  The groundhog saw his shadow and the day is over…but who says we can’t still celebrate?!
We will read Groundhog Weather School  and start adding any facts we learn to our groundhog fact chart.  We are really diving into informational text and non-fiction books to learn about facts so the ‘staches are on the look out for things that are facts!
groundhog gets a say
I wish I could draw said Mr. Greg as he posts his groundhog for the world to see…
We will introduce the letter G and the sound of g using our circle map of pictures.  Yeah…more of my lame drawing…geez!
Math is all about decomposing numbers this week.  We will review what decomposing numbers means and how it’s connected to subtraction!  We will work whole group on decomposing numbers using Legos!  Each ‘stache will have 10 Legos and a work mat.  I will ask them to put a certain number of blocks on their mat and then we will decompose them into pairs.  I will record the information in a number bond on our class chart.
We will do a groundhog graphing activity and make a groundhog hat to celebrate the groundhog…even though he saw his stinkin’ shadow!
Wednesday will be more groundhogs and shadows!  We will read Groundhog Gets A Say and continue adding to our fact chart.
We will spell the G words on our circle map and count the syllables.
In math, more decomposing numbers.  Today we will work on number bonds.  Each ‘stache will have a number bond mat.  They will place a number of counters in the large circle and then decompose those into the smaller circles.  I will record their number bonds on chart paper.  After whole group practice, I will give them a practice page to complete using their mats and counters!
We will roll out the art supplies for a fun little groundhog craft!

Thursday is more groundhogs.  More facts.  More shadows.  We will read Go To Sleep Groundhog
In math, we will do some doggie number decomposing with a fun little art activity.  Art?  Math?  Truth.  Why not make math artsy?  Have some fun, get creative and learn to decompose numbers.  And really, who doesn’t love doggies?!
I came up with this idea when I was revamping my doggie decomposing numbers creation.  It turned out super cute when I practiced so i’m SUPER stoked for the ‘staches do this!
Groundhog-palooza continues with some more math.  MORE MATH?!  Oh yeah!
How about some data collection and graphing?!
And FRIDAY!
We wrap up groundhog week with Geoffrey Groundhog Predicts The Weather!  We will review all of our groundhog knowledge!
And of course, some math assessment on decomposing numbers.  How about another project?!  Project?  Assessment?!  Math?!  YEP!
And of course, Friday means Mad Science Friday and Foodie Fun Friday!
Since the groundhog saw his shadow, how about some snow slime?

To make this, you need pudding cups, vanilla wafers, black icing and Oreos.  The ‘staches will crumble an Oreo on top of the pudding.  Then they use the icing to make eyes and a nose on their cookie.  Then gently sit the cookie into the pudding!  The groundhog is coming out of his hole!
Of course, we will continue our Writing Through The Year lessons…we’ll blend and segment and work on sight words…we’ll count…we’ll sing and dance.  Mr. Greg will probably have his last observation of the year.  And we’ll throw glitter!
