Happy Monday! It’s time for another classroom video.
I recently shared a classroom video of a guided reading lesson with my highest reading group. Today I am sharing a video with my below grade level group. This group is reading on a level 2/3 which equates to a Fountas/Pinnell B/C.
This group gets more direct teaching of words. In this book there are color words on each page so before we read we read and spell color words. We also review sight words. These are review because they are words we have learned in our weekly sight word lessons. We do a directed picture walk where they are directed to look at the pictures and then asked what kind of shoes are in the story. After that we do choral reading. We all, including me read together. As we’re reading I will let my voice drop out so they’re reading on their own. As the week progresses, I will read less and less until they are reading entire on their own. You will see that we go back and read some pages and sentences again because we read the wrong word or muddled through a page. At the end, I ask them what kind of shoes they would wear as a way to make connections with the text.
