I am always on the lookout for fun, easy games and activities to practice and review sight words with my kindergarten class. It’s even better if the ‘staches are up and moving and talking and working with their friends.
And ya’ll know how much I LOVE the Dollar Tree! So…combine sight words and movement and the Dollar Tree…AND EASY…I mean, could you ask for anything more?!?!? I mean, CUE THE GLITTER!
So, at the Dollar Tree they have packages of foam hearts. $1 for 12.
Next, I wrote our sight words for the week on the hearts. I wrote the same word on both halves of the hearts.
And then cut the heart in half.
I passed out the heart pieces to the ‘staches and made a big dramatic production of how Mr. Greg’s heart was broken and the only way to fix it was to read our sight words!
Then they had to find their partners by matching the words AND the colors! (Yes, the colors had to be the same!)
They read the word. And spelled the word!
Then we traded pieces and played again!
BAM! Super easy! Lots of fun and giggles! And learning!
I plan on using these hearts for a while. The best part, you can find foam shapes for all seasons and holidays so this can easily be adapted for use any time of the year and for any skill!
