This week we’re continuing on our journey around the world with Holidays Around The World!  We will work on this research project until Christmas break.  Each day we will board SmorgieForceOne and jet off to a different country (using Google Earth!).  Each child gets a personalized airline ticket for each country and we get to stamp our passports for every country we visit!

We will read a story that ties into the traditions of each country and we will learn how to say Merry Christmas in the language of the country.  Then we complete our class chart and the students complete their country page in their research journal!

For each country we will also watch a video, do an art project and incorporate traditions into our day.

Of course we’ll be doing some super fun and easy Holidays Around The World art projects:

This week we continue with our TKS BOOTCAMP CURRICULUM with  Vowel FAMILY BOOTCAMP!  We spend a week on each vowel.  We start with short and long vowels by sorting and listening to identify the vowel sound.  Then we move to our circle map.  Next we do word building and reading and finally word writing!

Math-2D and 3D Shapes with Shapes Bootcamp

This week we are reviewing 2D shapes and introducing 3D shapes!  We will be using our Shapes Bootcamp portion of our TKS BOOTCAMP CURRICULUM to identify, sort, build and describe 2D and 3D shapes!

2D and 3D shapes

First, we  will learn the 3D shapes and for each shape we create a bubble map describing the shape.  Then we determine the faces of the shape, if it rolls, slides and stacks,  if it’s 2D or 3D and we come up with a real life object for that shape.

We’re also doing a fun 3D shape sort using magazines.  This gives the students an opportunity to find real life 3D shapes!  We did this with 2D shapes and it was a huge success, so I know we will love the 3D shape hunt!   Simply give them magazines and scissors.  Create large anchor charts for each 3D shape.  Students find a 3D shape, cut it out and glue the picture onto the correct anchor chart!   You can check out this post to see our 2D shape hunt and sort to get an idea of how it works!

This week we’re using these resources in our class this week:
