Happy Schedulin’ Sunday! This week we’re reading A Crankenstein Valentine to work on character traits and continuing Vowel Bootcamp! We’re also starting to learn about number bonds and decomposing numbers and celebrating Valentine’s Day!

Teeth Research Project
This week we are learning about teeth with our Teeth Research Project. For this research project, we make a schema map and tree maps about teeth, dentists and the tooth fairy! And we write about each of those using our graphic organizers!
We’re also using our Show Me Your Teeth for math and literacy centers!
As part of our teeth research project, we create a smile board to see if students can identify themselves and their friends based on just the smile!
Then we are continuing Vowel Bootcamp! Our focus is on CVC-E words. We do one vowel a week. Monday is a circle chart, Tuesday is word building, Wednesday is word writing in whole group using whiteboards. Thursday the students do word writing on their own. Friday students do a word/picture match.
For small group work, we use our Vowel Bootcamp decodable readers!

Read It Up: A Crankenstein Valentine
This week we are reading A Crankenstein Valentine and using Read It Up! A Crankenstein Valentine. We’re focusing on character traits, how characters change and making connections. We will do a story map, and write about what makes us cranky!

Math: Decomposing Numbers
This week we’re starting to work on decomposing numbers with number bonds using Math It Up: Number Bonds.
To introduce decomposing numbers and number bonds, we always start with our giant number bonds on the floor lesson! This is a great introductory activity that always helps the kids solidify their understanding of the concept!
We make a giant number bond on the floor with a Sharpie. The students become the manipulatives and we move our bodies to practice decomposing numbers.
Then we move to working on number bonds independently using our giant number bonds.

This week is, of course, Valentine’s Day so we’re celebrating with a party on Friday and some fun art projects this week!
We also do a fun Valentine’s Day STEM project where the kids work in pairs to make the tallest tower of candy hearts!
Foodie Fun Friday And Mad Science Thursday
Mad Science Thursday will actually be on Friday this week because we’re making Love Potion as part of our Valentine’s Day party!
