Schedulin Sunday: Animals And Making 10

Happy Schedulin Sunday! This week we are kicking off a major 6 week unit on animals! We’re doing zoo animals, rainforest animals, and ocean animals! I am so excited! We’re also working on Vowel Bootcamp and making 10!

Lesson Plans: Researching And Writing About Animals

As always, you can download our weekly lesson plans here!

You can grab our editable lesson plan templates here:

Research Projects: Zoo Animals Research Project And Rainforest Animals Research Project

This week we kick off our animal extravaganza with zoo animals and rainforest animals. The Zoo Animals Research Project was originally created to use for the 2 weeks prior to our zoo trip. Unfortunately, there is no zoo trip this year but the class is so excited for our animal unit!

We learn about a different animal each day. We read about the animal, complete a graphic organizer, write about the animal, label the animal and draw the animal.

This week, we’re learning about elephants, lions, sloths, and giraffes!

TKS BOOTCAMP: Vowel Bootcamp

This week we’re continuing with TKS BOOTCAMP with Vowel Bootcamp! This is when we work with long vowels and the CVC-E pattern! After 4 weeks of virtual Vowel Bootcamp, the kids can identify vowels, identify how to make the vowel say its name and they can read and read a_e words. This week we will be continuing Vowel Bootcamp with a focus on reading and writing CVC-E Words!

We spend a week on each vowel and work on segmenting, blending and writing CVC-E words!

We start with a circle chart just like we do in every TKS BOOTCAMP!

Then we work on word building and blending:

Math: Making 10

This week in math, we are working to make 10. We will use ten frames, manipulatives, and MathStackers to make 10 and practice addition! We will be using our Math It Up: Making 10 creation this week!

We start off by using ten frames and writing equations. In non pandemic years, we use our bodies to fill the ten frames. This year we will be doing invidual ten frames and manipulatives.

After two days of using ten frames, we will use our MathStackers to make 10, and then we will use our MathStackers magnets in small groups!

Math Stackers is a toy for children but an essential classroom tool for educators. Math problems come to life when students begin stacking and playing with the MathStackers blocks. We do this whole group when I choose a number and we determine the next number to make 10 and then write the equations.

Foodie Fun Friday

Our Foodie Fun Friday snack is a lion! We use graham crackers, pretzel sticks, chocolate frosting, and chocolate chips!

This week we are using these TKS Creations:
