Week 26 of kindergarten is going to be our first full week in a while. We’ve had in-service, holidays and snow days so five full days is gonna be a little rough but we’ve packed the week with lots of fun learning about teeth, patterns, phonics and more! Lesson Plans For Kindergarten: Phonics And Phonemic Awareness
This week, we’re continuing Blends Bootcamp with digraphs. We are continuing with sh, th, ch, qu, and ng. We’re working on blending, decoding, segmenting and writing words with blends and digraphs. My students are doing well with these digraphs but the ng words are a challenge so we will be focused on those specific sounds this week!
For these activities, we’re using our digraph cards!
Phonemic Awareness Bootcamp
For phonemic awareness, we’re moving on to skill 8 of our Phonemic Awareness Bootcamp. Skill 8 is oral blending. This week we will do three different activities: Step it up, feed the monster and race to the word. These are included in Phonemic Awareness Bootcamp! Step it up has students stepping as they say the sounds. Feed the Monster is me saying sounds, students blending the sounds and finding the picture. They feed the picture to the monster. Race to the word is where students orally blend the sounds and race to find the correct picture!
Phonics Games
Due to snow days last week, we didn’t get to play these games so we will be playing them this week!
We’re going to play a few games and do some fun activities to practice decoding, blending, and spelling words with digraphs!
The first is our own version of the game Tapple. Welcome to classroom Tapple. We put giant letter cards in a circle. Say the word and segment the sounds. Students stand on the letters to spell the sounds. THe rest of the class is writing their words on whiteboards.
Another game we’re going to play is FIND OUR FRIEND! We hide a picture of a kid behind cards with digraphs written on the cards. I say a word, and students find a card with the correct digraph. The goal is to find the picture of our friend!
Lesson Plans For Kindergarten: For Social Studies And Reading: The Little House
This week, we’re continuing our third module of our required reading curriculum.
This week, we’re reading the book The Little House. I know people LOVE this book but it’s just not a fave of mine. We’re focused on questions and answers and using text evidence to see how the house changes over time. Again, this is a holdover from last week due to snow days.
Lesson Plans For Kindergarten: Patterns
This week, we are learning about patterns. Our curriculum and pacing guide have this at this point in the year, and I honestly don’t like it. It should be at the beginning of the year, but here we are. We’re going to make it fun, and honestly, this is always an easy unit for my kids because they recognize patterns pretty easily.
We’re going to make a anchor chart, make patterns with pop-its, movement patterns, and patterns with Goldfish crackers!
Lesson Plans For Kindergarten: Teeth
This week we’re learning about teeth. It’s my least favorite thing to teach and learn about because I hate teeth. I hate anything to do with teeth. The wiggly teeth. The dentist. All of it. So this is not enjoyable for me but we do it and we have while learning a lot!
We start our Teeth Research Project with a schema map. Then, we end our research project by completing our schema map with our new learning and addressing misconceptions.
We use read-alouds and videos to learn about teeth and record our learning using graphic organizers. And we label the parts of our teeth and graph how many teeth we have lost!
To practice brushing our teeth we use eggs! The eggs are hard boiled and soaked in soda or coffee overnight. The students use a toothbrush first with no toothpaste. When we see this doesn’t work, we add toothpaste and brush away the stains!
We will also do a torn paper tooth art project and paint with toothbrushes!

This week’s Foodie Fun Friday is a toothbrush made with pretzel rods, sugar wafer cookies and a little frosting!
Morning Meeting
This week our greeting is the shoe greeting! This is another holdover from last week due to the snow days. Plus the kids love this one!
Our activity is bubbles! I blow bubbles, but the kids have to practice self-control and NOT touch the bubbles!
