It’s week 5 of kindergarten and a four-day week, so we’re officially starting small groups and continuing to establish center routines. This week is still focused on routines and procedures as well. But mostly, our kindergarten lesson plans and activities are ABC BOOTCAMP, NUMBER BOOTCAMP, and American symbols activities.

Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: ABC BOOTCAMP
We’re continuing ABC BOOTCAMP this week, BUT we’re doing a pivot. For many years, we have followed the order of our curriculum, but it’s a very strange order that makes no sense. We were in our planning meeting with coaches and admin when we started discussing this, and our admin told us to change it to make it best for the kids. TRUTH. (This is one reason I chose this school. We do what’s BEST FOR KIDS!) So this week we’re doing: BFGHR.
We’re using our TKS BOOTCAMP Kit this year! That means new hats, new books, and we get to incorporate embedded mnemonics into ABC BOOTCAMP! We will be using our Letter Sound Cards and our Mnemonic Alphabet resource. Here’s the plan for each day of ABC BOOTCAMP:
Introduce the sound and letter using the letter sound card.
Introduce the mnemonic character with the story.
Circle chart (explicit instruction connecting sounds to known words and objects)
Handwriting
Hats
Our hats are: egg/eggplant, lion/ladybug, keys/ketchup. umbrella and underwear. There is a cut-and-paste hat and an assembly-required hat. The kids will choose the hat they want to make.
We also do explicit handwriting instruction for each letter. After explicit modeling, students do independent practice as I support and guide.
Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: Five Senses Activities-Last Stop On Market Street
This week we continue with our required reading curriculum. The first module is the five senses. So we’re teaching the language and skill of the curriculum, but using our resources to make it more kid-friendly and appropriate.
This week we’re reading Last Stop On Market Place! We do a notice and wonder chart, a text evidence chart for what CJ sees and hears and a question and answer chart.
American Symbols Activities
This week, we’re learning about American symbols to celerbate Constiution Day and remember 9/11. We’re learning about The Flag, The Statue Of LIberty and The White House.
We also do art projects for each of the landamrks!
Kindergarten Lesson Plans: Sorting, Classifying, Numbers And Counting
This week, we wrap uip Number Bootcamp and continue with our sorting unit.
We continue our sorting unit with sorting by colors, size, and shape. This week we have more focus on independent sorting. But one of the activities is a grad level project to sort by color. We make a giant rainbow on bulletin board paper and cut it into 5 pieces. That’s one pice for each class. We use magazines to find pictures that are the colof of the parapro.
The next day, the students do their own rainbow sort!
We also sort by shape and size with cut and paste activities!
Foodie Fun Friday: American Flag Snack
This week for Foodie Fun Friday, we’re making an American flag with a graham cracker, frosting and red and blue fruit.
