A Kindergarten Smorgasboard Schedulin’ Sunday: November 25th, 2013

OK, who has to teach this week??!  We have school Monday and Tuesday!  True story.  I can’t really complain…I mean, we did get two weeks off in October!
So, this is a short Schedulin Sunday in The Kindergarten Smorgasboard!  I am trying to keep things as normal as possible so the ‘staches remain calm…so here’s what our two day week looks like!
Monday
We will hit the letter R hard today and tomorrow.  We will make our letter and sound circle map.   We will of course make a silly hat!  How about a robot hat for R?
We will read The Amazing Turkey Rescue and discuss the story using our story map.
We will list foods that we might eat at a Thanksgiving feast.  After we compile our list, the ‘staches will complete a bubble map of the foods they want to eat.
In math, we will make our very first attempt at measuring!  True story.
I print off a set of Thanksgiving pictures and a non-standard ruler.  Since it’s Thanksgiving, we will measure with turkeys.  The ‘staches have a recording sheet.  We practice placing the ruler at the bottom of the picture and measuring to the top of the picture.  The ‘staches then measure each picture and write the answer on their recording sheet.  We then complete a class recording chart of our measurements.  This is a fun, hands-on and engaging way to meet some Common Core standards!

To celebrate Thanksgiving feasts, we will make placemats!!  These are so much fun!  It’s also fun to see what the ‘staches choose to put on their plate.
To make these, we glue a paper plate on construction paper.  We glue on a napkin and plastic utensils.  The ‘staches then go through sale papers that Mr. Greg has “borrowed” from Kroger and Publix!  They cut out the pictures of food they want and glue it on their plate!

Tuesday
Today is Stone Soup day!
We will read Stone Soup and discuss what happens when people work together.
We will list ingredients for stone soup.
All students have been asked to bring in a can of vegetables.  We will open our vegetables and add them to our crock pot.  Mr.Greg will add the stone and 2 cans of chicken noodle soup (to make it taste yummy!).  In the afternoon we will enjoy our Stone Soup!
We will celebrate while wearing these adorable turkey hats!
These adorable and simple turkey hats are FREE from Time 4 Kindergarten!

We will be using this awesome unit from Kickin It In Kindergarten to help us celebrate Stone Soup!
And now…big news!  It’s coming.  It’s going to be epic.  It’s The Great Nashville Blogger/Blog Follower Meet up!!!
