This week we are continuing our weather unit with our weather research project! We are also working on subtraction to 10 and introducing VOWEL TEAMS BOOTCAMP!
And as always you can download my lesson plans by clicking the image below!
Weather Research Project
The ‘staches will be using my Weather research creation to research and write about different types of weather and how our weather works. We are also going to be observing and recording our daily weather observations. This research project contains suggested books, recording sheets for each type of weather as well as all the materials needed to create your research journal and graphic organizers! This 2 week weather unit is aligned to the NGSS!
For each type of weather, we read a book and record our learning on a tree map. The students then use that information to write about the weather. We also do an art project for each type of weather!
We do a weather experiment to see how clouds fill with water and make rain!
And of course we have a weather snack with blueberries and whip cream!
This week we also learn about cloud types! True story. My kindergarteners learn types of clouds and what each type means! We read The Cloud Book by Tomie DePaola and make cloud people using cotton balls! For more information on our cloud people project, just click the image!
Then we read It Looked Like Spilt Milk and we make our own spilt milk clouds!

Rainbows
A weather unit is also a great time to incorporate rainbows! My class LOVES learning about rainbows using our Rainbow Research Project!

This week we’re we are kicking off Vowel Teams Bootcamp! My class gets so excited when we start a new TKS BOOTCAMP so I can’t wait to announce Vowel Teams Bootcamp!
This week we are learning ay/ai words! We will do our circle maps, build words, write words, sort words and blend and read words!
Math: Subtraction To 10
In math, we are working on subtraction to 10! My class is working on mastering the idea that subtraction means take away so this week we’re going to do some fun, hands on, engaging subtraction lessons to help solidify our learning. You see, my philosophy is that the more fun the learning, the more we’re engaged and that all means we learn more!
First up, BOWLING! We will use our giant bowling pins to take away. We start with 10, roll the ball, and subtract. Then we use the remaining pins and subtract from that number. The students will be writing equations on white boards and solving!
Check out this post on Bowling For Subtraction for more details and a freebie!
We will also go BUNNY BOWLING to practice subtraction! This is a fun spring and Easter take on bowling for subtraction! Instead of bowling pins, we will use bunny eggs from The Dollar Tree! For more details on this and to get some freebies, click on the image!
This week we will also be doing lots of small group practice with subtracting to 10! We will be using Play-dough! I mean, who doesn’t love to play with Play-dough?! And if you can SMASH things to practice math skills…why not?! Click on the image to see a video of this lesson and get your FREE subtraction cards!
