Lesson Plans For Letters And Sounds
Here are our lesson plans for introducing letters and sounds and numbers! Click the image to download my lesson plans!
ABC BOOTCAMP
This week we are kicking off ABC BOOTCAMP!!!! ABC BOOTCAMP is a research based, classroom proven approach to introducing letters and sounds. This is an intense and immersive experience in letters and sounds! This year we are changing it up a bit due to a request from our principal. This year we are NOT going in ABC Order. ABC BOOTCAMP is designed to be 100% flexible and adaptable so the order does not impact the learning. So this is a new approach for us but we are ready!
ABC BOOTCAMP starts with circle charts. This week we are learning M, A, S, P , T.
We also do handwriting for each letter. I explicitly model how to form each letter and the students practice writing the letter using the included handwriting sheets.
For each letter, we also make a silly hat! This is one of my favorite parts of ABC BOOTCAMP! The hats are great at re-inforcing letters and sounds and they also provide daily fine motor practice and cutting practice!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
This week we’re also celebrating Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to help us work with letters and sounds!
We do a fun balloon pop activity to kick off the week! We get to decorate Mr. Greg like a coconut tree and we use a predictable chart to help us read and learn our letters and names!
For all of the details, directions and resources for our Chicka Chicka Boom Boom activities, check out this blog post!
Another letter activity that we are doing this week is going on a letter hunt! We read Shiver Me Letters A Pirate ABC and use magazines to go on a letter hunt!
For more details on this activity, check out this post!
Back To School Research Project
We are continuing our school supply research and learning how to use our school supplies!
For each supply we make an anchor chart and then complete a puzzle!
For all the detail on our School Supply research project, check out this post!
Math
In math we are continuing NUMBER BOOTCAMP!!!!!!!!!!!! This week is numbers 3-7. We make circle charts and practice writing the numbers!
We are also focusing on number recognition and counting. This week we will do two simple activities to get some early information on students number recognition and counting.
For number recognition, we use number mats and students point to the number I say. Get your FREE number mats here!
Then we use paper plates and manipulatives to practice counting. I say a number and the students put the correct number of math counters on the plate.
We’re going to read Ten Pigs An Epic Bath Adventure. Then we’re going to use a giant bathtub drawn on paper and some paper pigs to act out the story. We will practice counting by putting pigs in the bath tub. The next day we will do a similar activity but the students will use little pigs and a ten frame to practice counting individually! Stay tuned for more details on this brand new activity!
Chicka Chicka 123
We will read Chicka Chicka 123 and use a giant ten frame made from SitSpots tape to count! We toss a bean bag on the coconut tree and use paper plates to make a ten frame!
Names
This week we’re practicing name writing and doing our FAVORITE name project: torn paper names! Simply write student names on black construction paper and they tear small pieces of paper and glue the paper on to make their names!
Foodie Fun Friday
This week for Foodie Fun Friday we are making a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom snack! Use pudding, graham crackers, Whoppers, Laffy Taffy and Pepperidge Farm Pirouette Sticks!
