Schedulin Sunday: Number Bonds And Dinosaurs

Happy Schedulin Sunday! This week we are continuing our dinosaur unit and introducing number bonds! We’re also working on reading and writing CVC-E words using TKS Bootcamp’s Vowel Bootcamp

Lesson Plans: Dinosaurs and Decomposing Numbers

As always, you can download our weekly lesson plans here!

You can grab our editable lesson plan templates here:

Research Project: Dinosaurs

We are continuing our three-week-long dinosaur unit this week! We will be using our Dinosaur Research Project! We learned about paleontologists and we are now paleontologists who are discovering and studying a different dinosaur each day!

As with all of our research projects, we record all of our learning in our research journals!

For each dinosaur we learn about, we read a book and we complete a tree chart as we read the book. Then we write about our dinosaur in our research journal.

And we label the dinosaur.

Finally, we draw the dinosaur!

TKS BOOTCAMP: Vowel Bootcamp

This week we’re continuing with TKS BOOTCAMP with Vowel Bootcamp! This is when we work with long vowels and the CVC-E pattern! After 4 weeks of virtual Vowel Bootcamp, the kids can identify vowels, identify how to make the vowel say its name and they can read and read a_e words. This week we will be continuing Vowel Bootcamp with a focus on reading and writing CVC-E Words!

We spend a week on each vowel and work on segmenting, blending and writing CVC-E words!

We start with a circle chart just like we do in every TKS BOOTCAMP!

Then we work on word building and blending:

Math: Decomposing Numbers To 10

This week in math, we are introducing decomposing numbers using number bonds. We will be using our Math It Up: Decomposing Numbers With Number Bonds creation!

In a typical year, we start out with our hula hoop number bond activity. Unfortunately, we can’t do this activity safely this year, so we’re adapting. We’re making this activity digital.

Instead of doing this on the floor with the kids, I made a digital version using our smartboard. You can also make this with PowerPoint. I simply inserted an image of a number bond. Then I added pictures of the kids. I’ll move their pictures into the large circle, then we will decompose by moving their pictures into smaller circles. Then we will discuss how we decomposed the number.

The next few days will be using our giant number bonds. To see a video of this lesson in action, click the link at the end of this post!
