Week 32 of kindergarten is a short week, plus it’s the start of two weeks of altered schedules thanks to state testing for upper grades. And are you ready for this? It’s the start of Backwards Bootcamp. Yep. The last 26 days of kindergarten are here.

Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: Phonics And Phonemic Awareness

This week, we’re continuing with CVC_E words in our phonics lessons. So, this week, we’re continuing to focus on spelling and writing cvc_e words and decoding words.
This week, we will continue spelling, writing cvc_e words, and decoding words. We’re also working on nonsense words since they show up on our end-of-year benchmark tests.

We will be using our large letter cards to spell and blend cvc_e words!

Kindergarten Ideas: Dinosaurs
Since we have altered schedules for the next two weeks, we decided to bring in some fun because we need all the fun to keep us sane for the next two weeks. That means it’s time to learn about DINOSAURS!

We kick off our Dinosaur Research Project with a schema map and then we learn about paleontologists. After we learn about paleontologists, students become a paleontologist and work to excavate fossils. The fossils? Chocolate chips from cookies!

Then we learn about a dinosaur a day. Each day we read a book and create a graphic organizer for each dinosaur. We also label each dinosaur.

Kindergarten Ideas: Easter And Spring
This week we’re also reading about bunnies and chicks and going on an egg hunt.
We read the story Bear Finds Eggs and worked on sequencing. Then, the kids did a fun art project where they designed their own eggs.

We also read How To Catch The Easter Bunny and work on retelling and we paint a bunny with our hands!

We’re also going on an egg hunt this week. Kids bring in eggs numbered 1-22. When we hunt the eggs kids find the eggs with their number. This means we all get the same amount of eggs.

Kindergarten Ideas: Addition And Subtraction
This week we’re gonna keep practicing addition and subtraction with our favorite math lessons: get off my boat and get on my boat! Basically, we are dong whole group practice and independent practice with boats!

For both of these, we make a giant boat on the floor. To subtract, we get off my boat. Kids get on the boat, and some kids get off the boat. The kids left on the boat are the answer. To add, we have some kids on a boat and some swimmers. We yell SHARK! and the swimmers jump on the boat. We count to find the answer! The kids will be writing the equations and answers on their whiteboards.

Then we will do the same idea for independent practice. The kids will solve equations using their own boats and kids!

Kindergarten Ideas: Backwards Bootcamp Alphabet Countdown
Ya’ll. I can’t believe we’re talking about this. This year has flown by but here we go! Backwards Bootcamp is underway! This is an alphabet countdown, so it’s backwards, so it goes from Z to A. A countdown is backwards so A to Z is not a countdown. Just saying. Rant over.
Each day, we do a word web for the letter, an activity or snack, or dress up for the letter. This year, we’re bringing back our ABC BOOTCAMP hats and making a hat each day!

Kindergarten Lessons: Morning Meeting
Our morning meeting greeting is a bunny hop. Students will hop to a friend and greet them.
