Week 31 of kindergarten means we’re celebrating not one but two special days: National Schwa Day and National Unicorn Day! We love a good theme day and any reason to party so we have lots of great kindergarten lessons for unicorns, continents, and more!

Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: Phonics And Phonemic Awareness

This week, we’re continuing with CVC_E words in our phonics lessons. So, this week, we’re continuing to focus on spelling and writing cvc_e words and decoding words.
This week, because it’s National Unicorn Day, we’re doing unicorn CVC_E words! I made a unicorn poster from the poster board. We used Post-it notes or unicorn horns to spell CVC words. I say the word, students segment the sounds and one student spells the word on the poster while the rest of the class writes the words. Then we blend the sounds into the word and use the word in a sentence.

We will be using our large letter cards to spell and blend cvc_e words!

Kindergarten Lessons And Activities: Social Studies And Continents
This week, we’re continuing our final module of our required reading curriculum. This module has us learning about continents and maps! This week, we’re learning about Australia and Antarctica! We’re using evidence organizers to learn about animals on the continents, natural features and things to do!

Kindergarten Lessons: National Schwa Day
Monday, April 7, is National Schwa Day, and this will be our first time celebrating! We’re going to introduce the schwa sound and make a circle chart of schwa words. We will also make a hat and enjoy some lemonade. We also start our day with a morning meeting, and our morning message will be ideas to help us relax since the schwa is unstressed! My costume is made from foam board!

This week we’re learning about the sun and the wind. We do a read-aloud and record our learning on our graphic organizer.
Kindergarten Lessons: National Unicorn Day
Wednesday, April 9 is National Unicorn Day and we go all in for this day because we love unicorns! We do read alouds, art projects, unicorn math and snacks! This wee we will celebrate on April 9 and do unicorn activities all week!

We start with Thelma The Unicorn! This is a great story about being happy with yourself!

We will do our favorite art project: unicorn feet painting!

We make unicorn snacks using pudding, marshmallows, and sprinkles!

Kindergarten Lessons For Math: Measurement
This week, we are wrapping up our measurement unit. We’re going to measure our feet and measure unicorns!

Day 4 is our favorite measurement activity. We get to find out how big our foot is. The kids trace each other’s foot and then we measure the size of our feet with different objects. Seriously. They giggle and laugh the entire time! And they’re learning.

We also measure unicorns. Students use non-standard rulers to measure unicorn pictures. We record our measurements on our chart!

Unicorn Math
Our unicorn math will be adding and subtracting unicorn horns. We will use our uniconr poster and add and subtract horns. The students will write and solve equations on their boards.

Kindergarten Lessons: Unicorn Art And Science
This week we’re doing paper plate unicorns and making unicorn slime!

Kindergarten Lessons: Morning Meeting
Our morning meeting greeting is a unicorn greeting! I make kids into unicorns. We choose a unicorn and greet our friend!
