Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: ABC BOOTCAMP
We’re wrapping up ABC BOOTCAMP this week which is crazy that it’s already over and that means we can start planning for our ABC BOOTCAMP fashion show! This week’s letters are: YQZ.

We’re using our TKS BOOTCAMP Kit this year! That means new hats, new books, and we get to incorporate embedded mnemonics into ABC BOOTCAMP! We will be using our Letter Sound Cards and our Mnemonic Alphabet resource. Here’s the plan for each day of ABC BOOTCAMP:

Introduce the sound and letter using the letter sound card.
Introduce the mnemonic character with the story.
Circle chart (explicit instruction connecting sounds to known words and objects)
Handwriting
Hats
Our hats are: yogurt/yak, queen/quarter, and zipper/zebra. There is a cut-and-paste hat and an assembly-required hat. The kids will choose the hat they want to make.

We also do explicit handwriting instruction for each letter. After explicit modeling, students do independent practice as I support and guide.

Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: Five Senses Activities-Last Stop On Market Street
This week we continue with our required reading curriculum. The first module is the five senses. So we’re teaching the language and skill of the curriculum, but using our resources to make it more kid-friendly and appropriate.

This week, we’re wrapping up Last Stop On Market Place! We’re working on details with a directed drawing of CJ.

And then we start Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! I used to be annoyed that our curriculum did this book later than we are used to, but now I love that it happens at the end of ABC BOOTCAMP because it’s a perfect way to review and practice letters and sounds.

We do the required Chicka Chicka Boom Boom activities from the curriculum, but we also do a lot of extra fun things with the book. Because…well..it’s Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!

We start CCBB with a letter hunt. Kids find the letters, we review the letter and sound and put the letters in order. We also do a fluency activity all week long. I make a chart that says “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, will there be enough room? Here comes…. Up the coconut tree!” When we get to “here comes” I put a sticky note on the chart to practice letters and sounds!

Apple Activities
This week, we’re finishing our apple unit with an apple party to celebrate Johnny Appleseed! We will complete our schema map to record our new learning, do an apple taste test, and test to see if apples float or sink!

We also do apple prints this week!

We’re also learning about Johnny Appleseed with hats, a labeling activity, and a graphic organizer!

And we will be starting our first monthly phonics project with our Apple Phonics Project. This month, we will do Letters and Sounds. This will make a cute door and hallway display!

Kindergarten Lesson Plans: Comparing Numbers
This week, we finish our Comparing Numbers unit. This unit focuses on the language of more, less, and same. We are not using symbols yet.

This week, we’re working on 1 more and 1 less with pretzels and marshmallows, comparing how many items are in a bag and doing more sticker battles!

Kindergarten Lesson Plans: Apple Party
This week we celebrate Johnny Appleseed’s birthday and the end of our apple unit with an apple party. We try lots of different apple foods and vote for our favorites!
